GUIDING THROUGH ANCIENT SCRIPTURE AND TEXTS - DELPHI

There is a great fondamental difference in between guiding through the means of conventional wisdom and sharing an in dept knowledge with the visitor.

Several parameters should always be taken into consideration. One of them is the visitors predisposition regarding knowledge and will to discover. An other is always the limits of time.

People visit Delphi always having in mind the idea of an Oracle and to what level the Delphic mysticism can be disclosed. The latter my dear friends depends "upon the eyes of the beholder".

Frequently though visitors will leave from Delphi with even more intense questions.

The indept comprehension of the mystical -E- as it was othertimes disclosed and revealed at the Pronaos (entrance) of the Temple of Apollo as well as the "Know Thyself". To what extent can the latter be disclosed and revealed?

What was the difference in between being a Sybilla and being a Pythia as both being priestesses of Apollo? To what extent have the "Sybillic texts" been justified and had they forseen the coming of Jesus Christ?

What was the role of the amphisemy of the given prophesies and were the oracles given justified within the future?

What was the correlation of Heraklitos the "Dark Philosopher" and the way that the Delphic prophesies were fathomed?

Is the wondrous "Charioteer" just an offering of power and ambition of the tyrrant of Gela Polyzalos (Southern Italy) or does he silently disclose the mystery of the human soul? And if he does how can it be decoded and demystified?

Who are the ones that were willing to demystify the semantics of god Apollo, Dionysus, Athena and the presense of Gaia and the 9 Muses? What have they said and to what extent were they willing to disclose the sacredness of Delphi to the "ignorant"?

Can ignorance cause sacriledge?

For people who feel that they "need to know", for people who need an in dept approach of the Delphic Mystery, for people who are trying to discover their mission and their contribution role on planet Gaia as citizens of the Universe, maybe god Apollo has some answers for them.

God Apollo is "inevitably cryptic" but for those who see with the eyes of the soul profoundly revealing for the difference in between Rememberance and Memory is something that the enlightened souls always seek.

15 August tomorrow and the Christian world is celebrating the Assumption of the Holly Virgin Mary.
Mother of Lord Jesus Christ the Greek Christian Orthodox world has attributed to Her an endless number of names and callings defining the myriad holly and blessed characteristics that Her divine mission encompasses and witholds.
Considered as the Divine Bridge that connects the Uncreated World with the Created beggeting into our World the Son of God Jesus Christ, the Divine Logos or Divine Word of God, Healer of bodies and souls, Divine Consolation of human souls, Holly Patronne and Leader and thousand others.
Being a guide for 40 years, I have guided many religious tours in Greece and what has been carved in my heart and soul, is that all these people no matter what denomination, their soul's reaction while entering into the churches, many with tears running down their eyes, what we call in the theological language "charmolypi" meaning the souls simultaneus feeling of joy and sorrow together which is interpreted by the Fathers of the Church as proof of contact of the human soul with Holly Spirit.
Having met people, brothers and sisters in Christ, from all over the world their pure heart always gave me hope that our longing for a better world, can make this world not only as the Letter to Diognetus refers that "we reside in this world but we minister in the Skies" but planet earth as well a place that we can minister in Love and in The Spirit. In a spiritual realm where there is nothing to preach, noone to prosylitize but only to share.
Ramsey Macmullen in his book " the Christianizing of the Roman State" refers that the early Greek Christians entered into the churches as Christians and left in the spirit of their ancient religion meaning singing and dancing something that in the beginning took the early Fathers of the Church as a surprise but later on led them to composing the Byzantine music and chants.
When the human soul rejoices being in contact with the Divine Creator of the World and of all the Universes it can make the people ecstaticly sing and dance as well. St.
Symeon the New Theologian describes this soul's longing as Divine Eros and this ferocious desire of the soul to transcend the secular level and to reach in the etheral realms of the Uncreated.
Wanting to thank all these people of no matter what denomination that I have accompagnied and guided throughout these 40 years - as a gesture of admiration and recognition for their participation in making me a better person, for their way to make me see in what wonderful wasy God reveals Himself through the human souls I'm posting this wonderful song first written and sung by George Harison and at present by Billy Preston. In this way I can as a Greek Orthodox can be and participate in Christianity in the way that Jesus Christ has taught.
May the day of the Assumption of our Holly Virgin Mary be for all of us a day of consolation as eternaly She stands as the Holly Bridge connecting what we are unable to connect without Her contribution.

Greece always speaks to the soul!! Because Greece is the soul of the world.
People who visit Greece with their heart and mind open, people who see Greece with the eye of the soul and listen carefully to the meanings it whispers will never be the same person again.
Greece is music and the Muses here show all their grandeur and power bestowing this unique soul with all the gifts that they bare to her.
Greece is etheral, and no matter how much throughout the centuries they tried to dim her light, this etheral light cannot be hidden, cannot be imprisoned. In seconds the spark lights again and humanity is enlightened at once.
Greece is Reason and Feeling together. Poetry and melody, as the language whenever pronounced becomes an helictical ascension from the earthly plane to the supercelestial world.

The ancient Greek Theogony meaning the revelation of the genealogy of the ancient Hellenic gods and goddesses and it's true sense is ineffable. No written word can fathom and describe, as well as define the Divine Universal Archetypes which are nothing else but numerous ways that the Divine Source, Creator of life and of the cosmos can reveal Thyself.
The ancient Hellenic Soul seeking theophany as "a child of Gaia and a Starseed" in order to reconnect to its origins in the ethereal realm will pass through endless phases. The path that leads is to transform matter into spiritual revelation when through epiphany or divine inspiration will make the attempt to express the Divine beautitude, for in the human realm it is only through matter that the human intellect can reach to the unseen noetical and supercelestial realm.
The revelation comes depending upon the inclination as well as the awakening of each human soul and its longing to re-member, thus it's calling to connect or reconnect to the universal truth known as "alitheia", literally meaning the exit from the darkness of Oblivion and the entering into the idea of divine circumambulation meaning the capability to enter into the ethereal realm where the divine abides.
It is always though through the sensual eyes that the eye of the soul will see and the "art of seeing"as "η τέχνη του οράν" Aristotle refers.
The word "agalma" is the word that the Greek logos uses to define the meaning of a statue. It's icon revealing the Divine beautitude based upon the divine inspiration of its creator as referred by Porphyry, which will lead to the rejoicing of the soul and the comprehension of its of divine grandeur as it will reveal before the eyes of the beholder.
God Apollo, seen as the Word of Zeus, God of light abiding in the ethereal realm is impossible to be seen by the human eyes though through the icon of the Sun, whom his rays are nothing else but the arrows of the god, and which is the way that he spreads knowledge to the world. Apollo's name encodes many mystical features and among them the idea of the Pole around which our universe and all the universes swirls around. Apollo can also be seen as the One, the (Εν) which can be discovered if we separate the letter A of his name from the rest of his name. A-πολλών , meaning he who is afar from the many. Ekativeletis means he who throws his arrows from afar for the word ekas means far away....

The statue of Zeus in Olympia was considered to be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Unfortunately the statue has not been preserved thus very few molds were found in Ancient Olympia during excavations in the well known Basilica of Phidias which was his workshop.

Frequently we wonder how the ancient sculpters were inspired regarding the form of their statues and to this I will refer to in an other posting.
Regarding thοthe statue of Zeus in Olympia - Strabo the Geographer in his 8th book chapter 30 refers to it and also reveals to us this very interesting detail of what this great sculptor had in mind when during the moments of his inspiration - enpneusis ( έμπνευσης ) or Divine inspiration - Theopneustia (Θεοπνευστία) - would lead his hand in order to create this great miracle.

Strabo Geography Book 8 Chapter 3, 30
"It remains for me to tell about Olympia, and how everything fell into the hands of the Eleians. The temple is in Pisatis, less than three hundred stadia distant from Elis. In front of the temple is situated a grove of wild olive trees, and the stadium is in this grove. Past the temple flows the Alpheius, which, rising in Arcadia, flows between the west and the south into the Triphylian Sea. At the outset the temple got fame on account of the oracle of the Olympian Zeus; and yet, after the oracle failed to respond, the glory of the temple persisted none the less, and it received all that increase of fame of which we know, on account both of the festal assembly and of the Olympian Games, in which the prize was a crown and which were regarded as sacred, the greatest games in the world. The temple was adorned by its numerous offerings, which were dedicated there from all parts of Greece. Among these was the Zeus of beaten gold dedicated by Cypselus the tyrant of Corinth. But the greatest of these was the image of Zeus made by Pheidias of Athens, son of Charmides; it was made of ivory, and it was so large that, although the temple was very large, the artist is thought to have missed the proper symmetry, for he showed Zeus seated but almost touching the roof with his head, thus making the impression that if Zeus arose and stood erect he would unroof the temple. Certain writers have recorded the measurements of the image, and Callimachus has set them forth in an iambic poem. Panaenus the painter, who was the nephew and collaborator of Pheidias, helped him greatly in decorating the image, particularly the garments, with colors. And many wonderful paintings, works of Panaenus, are also to be seen round the temple. It is related of Pheidias that, when Panaenus asked him after what model he was going to make the likeness of Zeus, he replied that he was going to make it after the likeness set forth by Homer in these words: “"Cronion spoke, and nodded assent with his dark brows, and then the ambrosial locks flowed streaming from the lord's immortal head, and he caused great Olympus to quake."
”1A noble description indeed, as appears not only from the "brows" but from the other details in the passage, because the poet provokes our imagination to conceive the picture of a mighty personage and a mighty power worthy of a Zeus, just as he does in the case of Hera, at the same time preserving what is appropriate in each; for of Hera he says, “"she shook herself upon the throne, and caused lofty Olympus to quake."
”2What in her case occurred when she moved her whole body, resulted in the case of Zeus when he merely "nodded with his brows," although his hair too was somewhat affected at the same time. This, too, is a graceful saying about the poet, that "he alone has seen, or else he alone has shown, the likenesses of the gods." The Eleians above all others are to be credited both with the magnificence of the temple and with the honor in which it was held. In the times of the Trojan war, it is true, or even before those times, they were not a prosperous people, since they had been humbled by the Pylians, and also, later on, by Heracles when Augeas their king was overthrown.

As we are experiencing a "changing of times", which personally I wouldn't like to call it as many people do an "awakening", I would rather call it an "anamnesis" or memory recalling for according to Plato knowledge is a truth, and as so, it is eternal therefore always existing beyond place and time. It is not by chance that Hesiod in his Cosmogony recalls prays to Mnemosyni (Memory) the mother of all the Muses before starting his wonderful work.

Seeking each one of us in times of contemplation to discover our true selves or perhaps our higher selves in order to soothe any kind of trauma that we have aquired within our lifetime - I come to quote that maybe the answer comes maybe partly from meditation but preferably from introspection.

Ancient Greek philosophers from Anaxogoras, Heracleitus, the Pythagorians, Orphics, Plato and Aristotle, Neo Platonists,such as Proklus or Neopythagorians such as Iamvlichus, Stoics, Epicourians and many more perhaps have answers that can contribute to our "recalling" and which will lead us to a path of enlightment and better congnizance of our inner reality and our spiritual capacity.

Creators as we all are, each one of us in his/her own way from the minute of his/her existence on planet Gaia ( I might even say even before) as each one of us accomplishes his/her own mission, what we need profoundly is to re-member - to put the pieces together of ourselves and as whole to heal, evolve and ascend as intellectual beings.

Being a professional tourist guide for Greece for 35 years and having communicated and shared with many people the knowledge that I had aquired, now more than ever, in these particular times I feel urged to continue my mission.

Several years before I had come with the idea of creating this page and so I did, but now I believe that this page has come to become one part of my mission. Where now, and through this page I can represent in another way - "the art of seeing" as Aristotle has quoted (η τέχνη του οράν), where I can relate and and correlate, through ancient scripture, Philosophy, Mythology, and the Universal Greek Language (Συμπαντική Ελληνική Γλώσσα ) and it's hidden codes as Plato refers in Cratylus, to ancient Greek monuments and places, from the Acropolis of Athens to Delphi and from Delos to Olympia, where through craftmanship we see spirituality pragmatized in an eternal creativity and as we can stand together before them,gaze and wonder our noesis to be able and reach and re-member our own truth with realization of previously unrealized facts.

The means of philosophy and mythology is not about story- telling or fairy-tale recording, or just chatting and showing off our in-part knowledge, but as a contribution of self- building and fortifying ourselves, of building the Acropolis of our souls and spirit, where virtue ( areti in Greek αρετή = αεί ρέω=aei - reo = being in eternal benevolent flow or motion) can lead us to demystify our own selves.

In the temple of Apollo in Delphi among the great quotes engraved on it's wall was to "Know Thyself" ( Γνώθι Σαυτόν), and through this our self realization leading to our self- healing will begin.
