“En-Grave-INK” — A Butoh Performance in Venice
Last year in Venice, I created a Butoh performance inspired by the ink artworks of Serena Poletti, merging body, movement, and material into a living dialogue.
🖋️ This piece is a poetic encounter between body, ink, and space — a reflection on life, death, and rebirth.
Inside the engraving studio, my body became part of Serena’s world of paper and ink — wrapped in fabrics that echoed her textures: taffeta, leather, tulle, and rope, in shades of black, white, and beige.
The performance flowed from the intimate space of the studio to the streets, canals, and bridges of Venice — transforming from stillness to movement, from death to rebirth.
“En” means within, “Grave” evokes death, and “Ink” becomes the lifeblood of creation.
🎶 The original music by Aleksandros Mitros — composed in Athens and inspired by my process in Venice — weaves through the piece like another living presence.
From the whisper of paper in Vicky’s Room to the resonance of Basilica Frari, each sound carries the emotional pulse of transformation.
🕊️ “En-Grave-INK” is a story of metamorphosis — from an old woman, a witch, to the rebirth of a new self.
