Zoumboulakis Gallery presents Marina Karella’s new body of work alongside rare selections from her longstanding oeuvre in the solo exhibition “Le Passage” curated by Kasia Maciejowska .

The new pieces signify an era of transition in which the iconic artist explores the passage of life, its relationship with fantasy and realms beyond the human world.

Works on canvas, as well as drawings, ceramic plates, and painted tiles, underscore Karella's desire to cross the boundaries between the everyday and the imaginary, the sublime and the familiar.

Studio views with Marina Karella who we look forward to welcoming for her solo exhibition “Le Passage” which opens this Thursday 4th June, 18:00-21:00 📍

In this show the artist explores a new freedom with colour and fantasy. Combining iconic pieces from her earlier oeuvre with these latest expressions, Karella takes us on a journey from the earthly plane to the spiritual realms via figures from the natural world.

the group exhibition "MASKING", curated by Katerina Nikolaou , opening today 18:00 - 21:00.

As the curator notes in her exhibition text:
"Stemming from the increasingly prominent
tendency to destigmatise vulnerable human nature,
the exhibition titled 'Masking' unfolds through multiple readings and interpretations, bringing to the fore the notion of 'fragility' - not merely as a material quality, but as an existential and political condition - illuminating stories, at times personal and at times social, that reveal 'vulnerability' as an integral element of our collective identity.

The term 'masking' was introduced by Ekman (1972) and Friesen (1969) to describe a complex behavioural phenomenon encompassing the concealment or suppression of one's true self
in order to conform to social expectations. In the
late 1970s, the term was studied primarily in relation to neurodivergent individuals.

In today's world, however, where every weakness seems to be met with disapproval and resilience is idealised as a virtue, might the most familiar way of experiencing ourselves be through the mask we wear for others? We camouflage our emotions in order to conceal aspects of ourselves. But what would it be like to experience the present moment if we were to acknowledge - or even embrace - its inherent instability? And how might fragility become not merely tolerable, but desirable?"

Nikos Alexiou's exhibition "The End - A Study on the Infinite" curated by continues till 11/04 📍

In a conversation between Nikos Alexiou and Christoforos Marinos from the catalogue of 52nd International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, Nikos Alexiou, The End, Greek Participation curated by Yorgos Tzirtzilakis

Nikos Alexiou mentions: "The title The End came as a ‘coincidence’, as a working title when the basic design was finished. The title, just like the work, brings together all my loves. There are two texts as well. The one is “The End” by Beckett, another favourite.
The other text is the second major play of Dimitris Dimitriadis, The new church of blood (1983). In this play the entire building of the theatre –the stage, the pit– takes part in the drama. In the end the whole theatre is torn down and at the very back of the stage appears a ‘projection’, as he calls it – a cosmogony, like a black hole which either sucks everything in or regenerates it.
To me, my own work, The End, could be the picture of the end in this play of Dimitriadis."
