I just came back from a wonderful vacation in Greece. My adventures going to the various Greek islands gave me fresh inspiration and perspective from the local DJs in these remote spots.
I witnessed a big range of DJ performances in such a short time…from blending music using new software features to a guy playing directly from spotify with zero blending, to a restaurant DJ who masterfully blended up to 4 tracks and another restaurant owner who dj’s/bartends/entertains, and works as a dock worker… I have seen it all!
Here are the lessons I took away from my experience:
1. People can tell when you cant blend music…do it well, but dont obsess over making it perfect. It’s important to read your crowd…they are your active feedback.
2. No matter the gear you have, you set the tone and entertainment for your guests and you can do it however you like….you dont need the best equipment. YOU are the equipment, invest in yourself and spend time working your craft.
3. Song choice matters more than mixing. People remember that you played the songs that made them dance!
Love you all!
