For the first time at the Venice Biennale, Mario Banushi presents the complete Romance Familiare trilogy: Ragada, Goodbye, Lindita and Taverna Miresia - Mario, Bella, Anastasia.
Across the three works, Banushi transforms autobiographical memories into a theatre of rituals, silences and startling images. Family histories, migration, grief, motherhood and belonging unfold through a language that is deeply personal yet universally resonant. Critics have described his work as “a poetic and elliptical language”, a “visual meditation on mourning”, and a theatre where “autobiographical experience opens onto a universal resonance.”
Rooted in Balkan memory and folklore, his performances move between the domestic and the surreal, between realism and phantasmagoria, creating dreamlike landscapes where loss, care, tenderness and violence coexist.
A trilogy built from personal wounds and collective memory.
A theatre of grief, love, family and transformation.
A world of silences, rituals and unforgettable images.
Presented as a complete body of work for the first time at the 54th International Theatre Festival of La Biennale di Venezia, where Mario Banushi receives the Silver Lion 2026.
