The solo show entitled Belly of the Fish by Valentina Bartolini conceives the belly as an enclosed, transformative space. Drawing inspiration from proto-surrealist practices, Bartolini redirects attention from the external world to the unconscious, allowing shapes to surface through intuition, introspection and attentive observation. The title alludes to biblical imagery of the inner world and transformation, such as the belly of the whale in the story of Jonah.

It is with great pleasure that we share Valentina Bartolini’s new work, “Mountain’s Tail” (2025), presented as part of the Cycladic Café Art Project at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens.

Bartolini’s work is deeply rooted in the textures of childhood memory and the enduring questions of home, origin and belonging. Her artworks unfold as quiet meditations on identity: They are built from fragile, tactile materials that speak to the instability of memory and the persistence of longing.

Drawing with color and oil pastels on Japanese Sekishu paper, “Mountain’s Tail” engages with a material whose origins stretch back to ancient Japan, historically reserved for official documents, books and artworks. Bartolini harnesses Sekishu paper’s delicate translucency and off-white hue, as well as its remarkable qualities: though exceptionally thin, it endures through time. These attributes allow her to create and sustain imaginative inner landscapes and hybrid chimerical worlds.

We are excited about our participation with the Greek artist P**y Vlassopoulou in this year's Liste Art Fair Basel. The booth presentation, titled “When Stories Become Form”, features three bodies of work: one that continues the work currently on view at Sharjah Biennial 16 and two created exclusively for LISTE. These works explore the intersections of narrative, form, and physical presence. The title references the groundbreaking 1969 exhibition “Live in Your Head: When Attitudes Become Form“ in Bern, Switzerland. Drawing on diverse theoretical and artistic inspirations, these works challenge traditional notions of sculpture, space and storytelling. Each piece reflects a shift from historical artistic paradigms, questioning how meaning is created and communicated through materials, lines and human interaction with space. From the body as a site of narrative creation to the wandering lines that challenge the dominance of language, to the materials and structures that allow for dwelling, each piece engages with how we make sense of the world—not just through words, but through the act of creation itself. Through these works, the artist poses the question: How do the stories we tell shape the forms we make, and how can we, as humans, shape the world around us?

Callirrhoë is thrilled to welcome and the editions by Anna Ebner-Quadri to take over the gallery space and create an exhibition among friends, for friends and for us all. The concept behind yours truly (working title) is quite simple: two artist-friends each create an edition with the other in mind. The result is a series of very personal works that, depending on the artist, the friend and the form of their relationship, take on more concrete, abstract or poetic forms. The editions are published in an edition of 25 + 5 AP, with a maximum format of 40 x 30 cm. yours truly (working title) starts in 2025 and will be exhibited for the first time in April at Callirrhoë in Athens.

H Callirrhoë με χαρά καλωσορίζει το επιμελητικό εγχείρημα and the editions της Anna Ebner-Quadri, το οποίο ειδικεύεται στα αριθμημένα αντίτυπα, στα πολλαπλά έργα και στα τυπώματα και θα καταλάβει τον χώρο της γκαλερί για να δημιουργήσει μια έκθεση ανάμεσα σε φίλους, για φίλους και για όλους μας. Η ιδέα πίσω από το yours truly (working title) είναι αρκετά απλή: δύο καλλιτέχνες-φίλοι δημιουργούν ο καθένας μια έκδοση έχοντας τον άλλον κατά νου. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι μια σειρά από πολύ προσωπικά έργα, τα οποία, ανάλογα με τον καλλιτέχνη, τον φίλο και τη μορφή της σχέσης τους, αποκτούν συγκεκριμένες, αφηρημένες ή ποιητικές μορφές. Τα έργα της έκθεσης κυκλοφορούν σε τιράζ 25 + 5 AP, με μέγιστη διάσταση 40 x 30 εκ. Το yours truly (working title) ξεκινά το 2025 και θα παρουσιαστεί για πρώτη φορά τον Απρίλιο στην Callirrhoë στην Αθήνα.

Electrified Echoes

Electrified Echoes explores themes of transformation, loss, and renewal, reflecting the intersection of Yorgos Stamkopoulos’ artistic journey with his experiences in Berlin’s dynamic cultural and musical landscape. Stamkopoulos has spent much of his adult life in Berlin, where he developed his career as a painter. In addition to his painting practice, he created visuals for DJs at the iconic Watergate club, a cornerstone of Berlin's clubbing history. This parallel activity not only influenced his creative process but also provided a space of freedom, solidarity, and unrestrained creativity, leaving a profound mark on his work.

Η έκθεση «Electrified Echoes» εξετάζει θέματα σχετικά με τη μεταμόρφωση και την απώλεια, αναστοχαζόμενη την καλλιτεχνική πορεία του Σταμκόπουλου, η οποία συνδέεται άρρηκτα με το πλούσιο πολιτιστικό και μουσικό περιβάλλον του Βερολίνου. Η έκθεση θα διαρκέσει έως τις 22 Μαρτίου, 2025. Ο Γιώργος Σταμκόπουλος έχει περάσει το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ενήλικης ζωής του στο Βερολίνο, όπου ανέπτυξε την καριέρα του ως ζωγράφος. Παράλληλα με τη ζωγραφική του, δημιουργεί οπτικά εφέ για DJs που εμφανίζονταν στο εμβληματικό κλαμπ Watergate, ένα σημείο αναφοράς για την ιστορία της νυχτερινής ζωής του Βερολίνου. Αυτή η παράλληλη δραστηριότητα όχι μόνο επηρέασε τη δημιουργική του διαδικασία, αλλά του προσέφερε έναν χώρο ελευθερίας, αλληλεγγύης και ανεξέλεγκτης δημιουργικότητας που άφησε ανεξίτηλο αποτύπωμα στο έργο του.

Birthday Confetti evokes objects of remembrance, ensuring they are not forgotten by the part of the family that stayed home. This composition can also be interpreted as a symbol of achievement, representing the resilience that required to leave home. In Economides’ narrative, color transcends mere visual appeal, becoming a powerful storytelling device.

Ο πίνακας Birthday Confetti φέρνει στο προσκήνιο αντικείμενα μνήμης, διασφαλίζοντας ότι δεν θα ξεχαστούν από εκείνους που έμειναν πίσω. Αυτή η σύνθεση μπορεί επίσης να ερμηνευτεί ως σύμβολο επίτευξης, αντιπροσωπεύοντας το ψυχικό σθένος που απαιτήθηκε για να αφήσουν πίσω τους το σπίτι. Στην αφήγηση της Οικονομίδου, το χρώμα ξεπερνά την απλή αισθητική απόλαυση και μετατρέπεται σε ισχυρό εργαλείο αφήγησης.

Μην χάσετε τα εγκαίνια της ατομικής έκθεσης Sunday Afternoon της Νικόλ Οικονομίδου στις 22 Νοεμβρίου 2024, 7 με 10 μ.μ.!

Η ατομική έκθεση Sunday Afternoon της Ελληνοαμερικανίδας καλλιτέχνιδας Νικόλ Οικονομίδου εξερευνά θέματα νοσταλγίας, την έννοια του σπιτιού και την αναζήτηση της ταυτότητας σε ένα διατλαντικό πλαίσιο. Η έκθεση αυτή αποτελεί συνέχεια της προηγούμενης σειράς της, Illusion of a Home, as a Memory και παρουσιάζεται για πρώτη φορά στην Callirrhoë. Εμπνευσμένη από φωτογραφίες που έστελνε η γιαγιά της προς την Ελλάδα στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1960 και τις αρχές του 1970, η έκθεση Sunday Afternoon καταγράφει την ηχώ ενός μακρινού παρελθόντος. Αυτές οι εικόνες μεταφέρουν το συναισθηματικό βάρος του ταξιδιού της οικογένειας μέσα από πόλεις, χώρες και ηπείρους.

Don’t miss the opening of the solo show Sunday Afternoon by Nicole Economides on November 22, 2024 from 7 to 10 pm!

The solo exhibition Sunday Afternoon by Greek-American artist Nicole Economides delves into themes of nostalgia, the concept of home and the quest for identity in a transatlantic context. This exhibition serves as a continuation of her earlier series, Illusion of a Home, as a Memory, and is being presented for the first time at Callirrhoë. Inspired by photographs her grandmother sent to Greece in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Sunday Afternoon captures the echoes of a distant past. These images hold the emotional weight of a family’s journey across cities, countries and continents.
