Discreetly Distinct
For the creation Discreetly Distinct choreographer Mariela Nestora brings together biology and choreography. Her proposition is what she has coined as molecular choreography. She applies basic principles of molecular genetics onto movement and makes use of philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s approach on the ‘molecular’.
Five performers form a world of perpetual modulations, a becoming in which the multiplicity of existence prevails. The choreography concurrently deals with microcosm and macrocosm, difference and repetition, familiar and unfamiliar blurring dipoles and edges of categories. This work is part of the choreographer’s ongoing artistic research mobilized by the urgent review of the relationship between humans and the environment.
In Discreetly Distinct dance is wilding in the outdoor space of the Agricultural University while the sun sets. As the natural light gradually diminishes, attention shifts from focusing to sensing discreetly distinct intensities, differences and interrelations. Performance Discreetly distinct opens up as an experience as well as a gathering of different species.
In this ephemeral system of coexistence, the singularity of perception is foregrounded. Dance as a landscape which continuously rewrites itself, makes room for releasing the spectator’s gaze. Difference emerges symbiotically.
