Gambian designer Yasai Joof, founder of Yasai Africa Designs, is reshaping the country’s fashion scene with her bold fusion of traditional textiles and modern styles.

Since launching her brand in 2019, Joof has created distinctive outfits for performers and fashion lovers while championing women’s empowerment in a field once dominated by men.

Despite facing challenges such as limited funding and equipment, she remains driven by creativity and purpose. “When designing, I imagine where my customers will wear the outfit - the event, the location, even their body type. That’s where my creativity comes alive,” she said, urging young women to “be yourself, be confident, and believe in your potential.”
