Exciting News! Our Book Project "Story From My Village" is LIVE now on KarolinaFund!
https://www.karolinafund.com/project/view/6133

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our crowdfunding campaign on KarolinaFund, and we need your support to make it a success!

We are creating a book narrated by the residents of the beautiful Upernavik District in the far north of Greenland. Based on interviews, the book tells about life's triumphs and challenges, sharing a way of life with the rest of Greenland and the world. As the translations are ongoing, the stories have filled me with immense excitement and anticipation for our book launch. We're not just crafting a book; we're creating a journey through the heart and soul of the Upernavik district, as told by its very own people.

Thank you for being a part of our journey it means the world to us

When I was delivering the equipment for shipping back home to Nuuk I felt little bit sad that this journey is over. I always feel most at ease in a small settlement were there are no cars and the people welcome you with a smile.
But the Next chapter of this project is to work with all the material and get it back to the people in the settlement of the fantastic District of Upernavik.

Today this epic journey ended in Upernavik after leaving the last settlement, Upernavik Kujalleq.
We had a rough sailing this morning to Upernavik but when we arrived after a difficult sea journey the feeling of happiness was multiplied. This journey started in Kullorsuaq on the 29th of July and it has brought us through not only one of the most amazing part of Greenland but as well on planet earth. We have visited 9 settlements and met so many fantastic people that have welcomed us and helped us in every possible way.
We have conducted over 40 interviews in the 9 settlements, Kullorsuaq, Nuussuaq, Nuuttarmiut, Tassiusaq, Innaarsuit, Naajaat, Aappilattoq, Kangersuatsiaq and Upernavik Kujalleq.
It has been a difficult journey filled with late hours and tight schedule that was always changing due to weather forecasts. But all that disappears when we stop for a moment and think about all the great people we have met and how many people have given their time to tell us their amazing stories from the settlements in Upernavik District.

I want to thank all the fantastic people that we have met in this great district of Upernavik, Greenland.

As well I want to thank two funds that made this expediton/project possible: Tips og Lotterimidler Pulje C and Kunstfondet

RAL supported us with transport

I want to thank specially Niels Berthelsen for his support.

Finally I want say that I am very fortunated to be part of a such a great team of people that I have traveled with for the past month in the boat and Birgitta in kullorsuaq.

As well I want to thank you that are reading this for follow our journey.
Thank you.

Today we arrived in Upernavik after a rough sailing from Upernavik Kujalleq. It has been a magnificent journey from the very start and along the entire way. In every settlement we have been fortunate to meet wonderful people that have opened their arms to help us along the way.
But making a project like this in Greenland is not easy, there are endless logistical challenges at every corner. This project has not been an exception from that. But we have been so lucky to have one team member that has been in Kullorsuaq and worked with us along the entire time as a Logistics manager of the project. Her name is Birgitta Kammann Danielsen.
I started my collaboration with her on this project seven months before the beginning of the project. Birgitta has been responsible for the logistical success of our journey. She has been ahead of us contacting schools and service houses to schedule interviews, our accommodations and locations where we could have interviews, photoshoots, as well as locations to exhibit my last project Piniartoq. So when we were busy working in the settlements she was preparing our arrival in the next. It made our life so much easier as we traveled and it was the key to how smooth everything went along the journey.

We visited Upernavik Kujalleq. When we arrived the first thing we noticed were the mountains. They could have been in every fjord in Iceland. The placement of the town was also very familiar and when it started to rain it felt just like home. But we only stayed for two days because our jorney had almost come to an end.

KANGERSUATSIAQ is just fantastic place to visit with wonderful people and a steep road up to the school that we were so fortunate to be allowed to stay at.
Next is Upernavik Kujalleq our 9th settlement on our journey and the last one.

We are now in the beautiful town of Kangersuatsiaq. We are staying at the school on the top of the hill. It isn’t a long walk by any means but a very steep one. The town is on a little island in the Upernavik district. We are very thankful for all the hospitality, but special thanks would have to go to the school for inviting us to stay with all our equipment. , , , , ,
