📣 WINNER'S ANNOUCEMENT 📣
We were thrilled to host the SAF Students Prize Gibraltar 2024 Awards Ceremony last night in the beautiful courtyard of Xapo Bank HQ. The ceremony was presented by Darren Whitley, MD of Sovereign Pension Services Gibraltar.
🏆Our congratulations to Zoe Payas, Judge’s Prize Winner of the SAF Students Prize, Gibraltar 2024 with her oil pastel piece, Sanctuaries of Light. Zoe wins £800 and £2,000 for her school art department at Bayside Comprehensive School. Zoe was not able to attend, but her art teach Karl Ullger collected the award on her behalf. Zoe commented: “I am deeply honoured and grateful to have received this prize. This recognition means so much to me and inspires me to continue pursuing my passion for art. I was inspired by ideas of pieces depicting fragmentation of architecture / historical buildings by varying artists which I researched on Pinterest. I would like to thank the Sovereign Art Foundation, the judges and everyone who has supported and encouraged me, especially my teacher, Mr Karl Ullger. Your belief in me is truly appreciated. I am humbled to have been a part of a competition with such talented students. Thank you for this incredible opportunity!”
🏆We also congratulate The Public Vote Prize winner Eve Abudarham, who won with her photograph, Staring into the Eye. Eve receives £400 and £1,000 for her school art department at Prior Park School. SAF Trustee and Director of Sovereign Tax Services, Lynette Chaudhary presented Eve with her Prize.
🏆The Simmons Gainsford winner was voted for by Simmons Gainsford staff and presented by partner Abdul Pisavadi. The winner receives £250 and £250 for their school art department. Congratulations to Max Masey, for winning this award with his digitally created work, La Sombra Del Deseo.
🏆The Fortress House Prize winner was Aimee Linares with her painting, La Calle Comedia. Aimee was awarded with £200 and the same amount for her school art department. Henry Little, Director, Fortress House presented Aimee with her award. Henry was also a judge of the Prize and he commented: “Congratulations to all of the exhibiting students – the quality of the work is a great testament to the strength of arts teaching in Gibraltar and it’s been great fun reviewing all of the submissions. Aimee’s piece is technically accomplished with a dramatic and sophisticated handling of perspective. The scene is set a night with artificial illumination which is a difficult to achieve. Without people, and set after dark, we’re left wondering what might be happening in this quiet city scene, with an intriguing, eerie quality which draws the viewer in. Like all great works of art, all is not as it seems”.
🏆Finally, the following highly commended prizes each won a £20 art supplies voucher:
1. Sienna Sene
2. Ana María Tricker
3. Georgia Truman-Davies
4. Sarah Cavilla Latin
5. Keane Mark Reyes
The SAF Students prize Gibraltar 2024 was presented by Simmons Gainsford and hosted at Xapo Bank, with support from Image Graphics, Schroders and Gibraltar Cultural Services.
