“Rewild your mind; your entire being. Dare to. I dare you to. Seek out the cracks. Go beyond “fitting in.” You can do better, much better. What you’ve been spoon-fed? Drop it all. It’s all made up. Every last bit of it. Learn from the weeds and the dandelions—the things “don’t belong.” Untame your soul. Find your own way.“

“I’m still learning how to sit with _________________.”

On Slide 7 is an invitation—to pause, reflect and maybe name something you’re still learning to carry.

You can respond through the poll or share in the comments.

Let this be a soft landing. A shared breath. A reminder: you’re not alone in the wrestling.

“I just understood something. I was listening and listening and listening but not hearing. Sorry, I mean I was hearing and hearing and hearing but not listening. I’m listening now. I’ve heard it over and over but it has finally sunk in. Some things take forever to register. I guess this is one of those things. But just wait and see. Just wait. We shall cause trouble.”

¾ Just in case you forgot.

⁵ “Hot Women: Women Singers From The Torrid Regions Of The World” is A 2003 album of pre-war music by female singers around the world spanning from 1927-1950 compiled by the underground Cartoonist, Robert Crumb. I referenced it in the drawing on the second slide because I was probably listening to it when I made the drawing.

⁶ Could handwriting become extinct? I’ve been pondering this question and looking for papers on the topic. Like the one in the slide.

⁷ DREAMER 0013. One of my favorites.

⁸ Throwback to “Channeling Yemoja”, a piece from 2017. Signed prints available at afroscope.com/channeling-yemoja-print.

⅚ Important reminders 🙏🏿.

⁷ More bad poetry in my imaginary book.

⁸ Two drawings from an old series (from 2017) called “Short Circuit” that I never did much with. There are about 15 drawings from this collection. The left side of the book depicts a vectorized and colored version. The right side is an original scan of one of the drawings.

Illuminate me from within
That I may continuously overflow
Visions from the other side abound when still
Traveling through possibilities guided by skill—
Acquired in silence and exercise
Discovered through curiosity and incessant trials
Unyielding, unperturbed, undeterred by defeat
Who is the real winner when you’ve learned to heal a broken back?
Snapped in two you rose
Loving; not morose
Exchange of pain for propulsion
Charging forward into a new form
A different dream
Another reality
Peeling it forth into existence
Shedding the weight and wahala of the thorn-ridden
Never feeling the ridicule
Reflecting back unto the net-casters
False fishers of men
Asking irrelevant questions
Oblivious to the alternate frequency
Ignorant of the rewiring
Clueless about the decolonization
—The results of a waking dream
Where one sees that which exists beyond
Fit for daring eyes only
Forever waiting to be glimpsed
Blinding out mindless concerns
Healing from cranium to calcaneus
