SIKA DAILY TEAM FROM UMaT RANKED FIRST, WINS GH¢5,000 AT SIKA PITCH SEMINAR

The Sika Daily Team from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) secured the top spot at the Sika Pitch Seminar, emerging as overall winners and taking home a GH¢5,000 cash prize.

Organized by SikaFX in collaboration with NEGOS HuB, the event brought together innovative student teams to present solutions addressing real-world financial challenges within Ghana’s fintech space.

The team impressed judges with their solution, "SikaDaily" - a digital adaptation of the traditional susu system. By integrating mobile money platforms, the innovation enables users to save securely, track transactions, and build credible financial profiles, unlocking access to affordable credit for traders and online vendors.

Their remarkable performance reinforces the impact of youth-driven innovation in advancing financial inclusion in Ghana.

PROF. BERNARD KUMI-BOATENG ELEVATED TO GhIS FELLOW 🎓📐

We are proud to share that Ing. Surv. Prof. Bernard Kumi-Boateng, Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Studies (FGES) at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), has been elevated to the rank of Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS).

This distinguished honour—the highest grade of membership within GhIS, was conferred at the Institution’s 57th Annual General Meeting in Tema. The elevation recognizes his significant contributions and dedicated volunteer service to the Land Surveying Division, as well as his sustained impact on the surveying profession in Ghana.

As a Professor of Geomatic Engineering, Prof Bernard Kumi-Boateng. has built an impressive career spanning research, innovation, and academic leadership. His pioneering work in Geospatial Poverty Mapping and his strategic leadership at UMaT continue to shape geospatial education and professional practice in Ghana.

This Fellowship is a testament to his expertise, integrity, and commitment to advancing Ghana’s built environment and geospatial sector.
