“GROW IN THE WORD 1”
FOR READING: Joshua 1:5-9
MEMORY VERSE:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God”. - Colossians 3:16
Growth is a very vital element in life. Parents expect their new born babies to grow and build up physically. School teachers also expect their pupils to grow mentally. Just as parents become happy when their children are built up physically, God expects his children to also grow up in Him. One aspect of Christian growth is by reading, studying and meditating on the Scriptures.
Moses had finished his God-given assignment and had laid his hands on Joshua to be filled with the spirit of wisdom to carry on with the same assignment. God gave Joshua his job description – fighting and dividing the conquered land to the Israelites. The number one key the Lord gave to Joshua to be strong,
courageous, bold and fearless was to grow in the Word of God.
To grow in the Word of God, we are to make a conscious effort to search the Scriptures. To search the scriptures implies a strict, close, ardent, diligent and curious search, such as men make when they are seeking gold.
How can the Word of Christ dwell in us richly, when we do not have time to search and study it?
MEDITATION
• Would I be happy when my child, for many years, does not grow?
• Why are most of my prayers not being answered?
• Why am I making so many mistakes in life?
PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me to grow in your Word so that I will know and pray according to your will for answered prayer, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
THOUGHT
Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. (Mathew 22:29).
