On This Day in Jazz History:
Milton "Bags" Jackson, an American jazz vibraphonist was born (Detroit, Michigan - 1923). Milt was passionate about music, picking up his first instrument at the tender age of 7 (guitar ). A master of several musical instruments, Milt was a very expressive player. Jackson differentiated himself from other vibraphonists in his attention to variations on harmonics and rhythm. He is especially remembered for his cool swinging solos as a member of the Modern Jazz Quartet.
