yoyo tinz, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Ghana, is hosting From Highlife to Hip Hop: The Sample Legacy of Ebo Taylor — a cultural conversation, listening and live beatmaking event right here in Accra.
Ebo Taylor was one of Ghana's most important musicians. He was also one of the most sampled — his recordings lifted into hip hop tracks by artists like Usher, Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Rowland, Rapsody, and Vic Mensa. Many of those artists' fans have no idea the music came from Ghana.
On June 12th we're bringing that story home. Conversations with his daughter Mercy Taylor, Kofi Baochi- Ansah and FIFI ANSV will dive into his legacy and the Ghanaian sample culture.

Ebo Taylor passed away earlier this year, in February, leaving behind an important music catalog that has inspired many, all over the world.

We will be acknowledging and celebrating his legacy on
June 12th. We’ll be playing the originals and what they became through sampling. And we’ll be trying to answer the question: why the story didn’t travel with the music?

💿From Highlife to Hip Hop: The Sample Legacy of Ebo Taylor.
🗓️ Friday 12/06/2026
📍Goethe Institute, Cantonments, Accra
💰Free entry.
