Ground Up Chale and its founder, Glen Boateng, have officially filed a lawsuit against musician Kwesi Arthur at the High Court in Accra over alleged libel.
According to court documents dated 27 January 2026, the suit follows a series of social media posts made by Kwesi Arthur in which he accused the label of unfairly claiming ownership of his image and music, demanding $150,000 for the use of his own visuals, blocking his independent releases, and threatening him.
Ground Up Chale argues that those statements are defamatory and have caused significant damage to the company’s reputation. As a result, the label is seeking over GH¢10 million in damages, the removal of the said social media posts, an injunction to prevent further alleged defamatory comments, and a public apology from the musician.
Speaking on the matter, the label’s lawyer, Jonathan K. Amable, has denied the allegations made by Kwesi Arthur. He maintains that the artist was only restricted from using visuals and materials owned by the label, not from releasing music independently. He further stated that records show Kwesi Arthur received royalties during his time with the company.
Ground Up Chale says it is fully prepared to defend its position in court as the legal battle unfolds.
This latest development escalates the already public dispute between the former label and the award-winning rapper, moving the matter from social media exchanges to the courtroom.
