PRAMPRAM HOMOWO FESTIVAL

I was honoured to represent His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, at this year’s Prampram Homowo Festival, celebrated under the theme:

“Commemorating 200 Years of the Katamanso War: Unity in Remembrance, Pride in Our Culture, Hope for Our Future.”

The celebration offered a profound reflection on the historical significance of the Katamanso War of 1826, a defining chapter in the history of the Ga-Dangme people and an enduring testament to courage, unity and collective resistance. Two centuries later, its memory continues to remind us that our strength lies in our ability to stand together, preserve our heritage and build a future worthy of those who came before us.

Homowo itself remains a cherished expression of our cultural identity. Through the traditional rites, the sprinkling of kpokpoi, drumming, dancing, ancestral remembrance and the gathering of chiefs, elders and the wider community, we reconnect with our history and reaffirm the values that bind our people together.

I extended warm greetings and best wishes from His Excellency the President to the Chiefs, Queen Mothers, elders and the good people of Prampram. I also commended the traditional authorities and the organising committee for preserving our customs and creating a platform where history, culture and community converge.

As we commemorate 200 years of the Katamanso War, may we draw strength from the sacrifices of our ancestors, take pride in our rich cultural heritage and remain united in our determination to secure a peaceful, prosperous and hopeful future for generations yet unborn.
