“When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.”— John F. Kennedy

In this light, we cannot deny the fact that Poetry is an asset that must be treasured.

Dear beloved, we therefore invite you to join in the celebration of poetry by joining the *7th edition of Ghana Poetry Festival* scheduled to take place from 12-14 November, 2020.

It is a well packaged festival with interesting sessions including performances, readings, conversations, master classes among others.

Participating poets are from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Greece, Uganda, Kenya, United States, France, Canada among others.

The good thing about this edition is that it doesn’t matter where you’re; just get your data and you’re part—it’s virtually a VIRTUAL Festival: Zoom + Facebook + Instagram + Twitter + YouTube...

Brought to you by Values for Life-Gh and supported by Ghana Reads Initiative, e-Ananse Libraries, Ghana National Commission for UNESCO, Socialist Forum of Ghana, Bureau of Ghana Languages & others.

Chairperson:

Prof. Akilagpa Sawyer
[Former President, Ghana Academy of Arts & Sciences]

📌 Through poetry you can describe vast things, precisely. You can give shape to your emotions and thoughts.

26/10/2019

📌 Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public - that's what the poet does.

26/10/2019

📌 Poetry is b***d with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate - tough skin of words.

26/10/2019

📌 There were poets long before there were printing presses. Poetry is primarily oral utterance, to be said aloud & to be heard.

26/10/2019

📌 Spoken word has existed for years; long before writing, through a cycle of practicing, listening and memorizing - each language drew on its resources of sound structure for aural patterns that made spoken poetry very different and easier to commit to memory.

25/10/2019

📌 Spoken word is a performance art that is word based. It is an oral art that focuses on the aesthetics of word play such as intonation and voice inflection.

25/10/2019

📌 Both poetry and language are fashionably thought to have belonged to ritual in early agricultural societies; and poetry in particular, it has been claimed, arose at first in the form of magical spells recited to ensure a good harvest.

25/10/2019

📌 Poetry is the other way of using language. Perhaps was the only way of using language; prose being the derivative and younger rival.

25/10/2019

📌 Poetry is a vast subject, as old as history, present wherever religion is present; the primal and primary form of languages themselves.
