Man, 25, Jailed for Defiling 4-Year-Old Girl

Kasoa, Central Region – Stephen Kweku Darko, a 25-year-old man, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court for the sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in Awutu Adawukwa, in the Awutu Senya District of Ghana’s Central Region.

The court heard that Darko, who lived in close proximity to the victim’s family, lured the young girl into his room on May 9, 2026, by offering her toffee. He then sexually abused her.

Darko pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement when he appeared before the court. Following his plea, he was convicted and immediately sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The case has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for greater vigilance and protection for children, especially in neighbourhoods where adults and young children interact freely.

This latest conviction adds to growing concerns over child sexual abuse cases in parts of the Central Region. Authorities have urged parents and guardians to remain alert and report suspicious behaviour promptly to prevent such incidents.

The prosecution is reported to have presented medical evidence and witness statements that supported the charge. The victim is said to be receiving the necessary medical and psychological support.

Joana Quaye Seeks Court Injunction Against Richard Nii Armah Quaye Over Assets and Company Shares

Mrs. Joana Quaye has reportedly filed an application seeking a court injunction against businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye over assets and company shares linked to his business interests.

In an affidavit supporting the application, Madam Quaye detailed the history of their relationship, explaining that they first met in 2002 after completing secondary school and later got married in 2010.

According to her, she played a significant role in supporting Mr. Quaye both financially and personally during the early stages of his life and career. She claimed that her contributions helped fund his education and also supported some of his initial business ventures.

Mrs. Quaye further alleged that she assisted in the establishment of Quick Credit Company Limited, now known as Bills Micro Credit, which has since grown into a well-known financial institution in Ghana.

She also stated that before their marriage, the couple operated a joint bank account and made investments together. Madam Quaye claims the proceeds from those investments were used to finance Mr. Quaye’s studies in the United Kingdom.

The legal action is reportedly aimed at preventing the disposal or transfer of certain assets and shares while the matter remains before the court. Further details on the case are expected to emerge as proceedings continue.

Prophetess Claims Buying UK Used iPhones Is a Sin 😳😳😳

A Ghanaian prophetess has sparked reactions on social media after boldly declaring that purchasing UK used iPhones is a sin.

According to the unidentified prophetess, individuals who buy second-hand iPhones imported from the United Kingdom are engaging in an act she believes is spiritually wrong and unacceptable before God.

She further claimed that people who knowingly use such phones are at risk of facing eternal punishment, insisting that many of the devices come with “spiritual contamination” and questionable histories.

Her comments, which were reportedly made during a church gathering, have since gone viral online, generating mixed reactions among Ghanaians.

While some social media users dismissed the statement as outrageous and baseless, others argued that spiritual leaders are entitled to their personal beliefs and opinions.

The prophetess did not provide any biblical reference or evidence to support her claims, but her remarks have continued to fuel conversations online about religion, spirituality, and the widespread use of UK used phones in Ghana.

UK used mobile phones, especially iPhones, remain popular in Ghana due to their relatively cheaper prices compared to brand-new devices.

Midwife Arrested in GH₵55K Child Trafficking Probe at Osu Hospital

Accra, May 14, 2026 — A senior midwife at the Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a child trafficking syndicate operating in the Greater Accra Region.

Lucinda Naomi Otchere, Head of the Maternity and Labour Ward at the hospital, was picked up by police on Tuesday, May 13, 2026.

According to investigators, Otchere received a missing seven-year-old girl from Janet Larbie and paid GH₵20,000 to facilitate the transfer. She reportedly later paid an additional GH₵35,000, bringing the total to GH₵55,000, and instructed Larbie to supply another victim — a five-year-old girl — to a couple residing in Pokuase.

Police believe the syndicate has been active for some time, trafficking young children through connections linked to the hospital.

The arrest of Otchere follows a successful earlier operation by the Central East Regional Police Command, which led to the apprehension of six other suspects: Grace Osei-Effie, Regina Ejewa, Janet Larbie, Mary Doce, Yvonne Chumessy, and Sekina Umar.

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has established a committee to investigate the rising cost of university hostel fees across the country amid growing concerns from students and parents.

The move has been widely welcomed by many Ghanaians who believe hostel accommodation charges at some universities have become excessively expensive and unbearable for the average student.

In recent years, several students have complained about paying huge sums for accommodation, with some hostel fees reportedly reaching nearly GHS 20,000 per semester — in some cases even higher than the actual academic tuition fees.

Many parents and guardians say the increasing cost of accommodation is placing enormous financial pressure on families already struggling with the rising cost of living. Students have also expressed frustration, arguing that hostel facilities, which are supposed to support academic life, are now becoming an additional burden.

The committee is expected to review the pricing structures of hostel facilities and recommend measures to ensure fairness, transparency, and affordability within the tertiary education system.

Observers say the intervention is long overdue, as concerns over expensive hostel charges have persisted for years without significant action. Many are hopeful that the investigation will lead to reforms that protect students from exploitation while ensuring decent accommodation standards on campuses.

The development has reignited conversations about accessibility and affordability in Ghana’s education sector, with calls for authorities to prioritise the welfare of students and their families.
