Title: The Unresolved Plight of Some Ghanaian Teachers: Examining the Real Problem

In 2020, hopes were high for some Diploma Teachers in Ghana seeking to upgrade their qualifications to a degree level through the University of Education, Winneba's ITECPD section for a 3 year top up which was later reduced to 1 year programme. With aspirations of advancing their careers and contributing more effectively to the education sector, they enrolled and paid nearly 3000 Ghanaian cedis in tuition fees. However, their dreams were shattered when, after completing the first semester, the course abruptly ended due to its lack of accreditation.

Four years have passed since this unfortunate incident, and the affected teachers are still grappling with the aftermath. Despite numerous appeals and petitions to the relevant authorities, there has been little to no progress in resolving the issue. Meanwhile, these teachers, already burdened by meager salaries, find themselves saddled with loans they took out to finance their education, loans that have yielded no benefits. The affected teachers are in dilemma but who cares about the state of a teacher....??

The question that arises from this debacle is: Who is the real problem in Ghana?

One could argue that the University of Education, Winneba, bears some responsibility for offering an unaccredited course and failing to rectify the situation promptly. Educational institutions have a duty to ensure that the programs they offer meet the necessary standards and are accredited by the appropriate authorities. The lack of accreditation not only jeopardizes the academic credibility of the institution but also undermines the trust and confidence of students and teachers alike.
