The Magic of Blue

It’s no secret that tattoos gradually fade over time. Anyone acquainted with the world of ink knows that warm hues are the first to vanish. Similar to skin tone colors such as yellow, orange, and light brown, they might fade into mere echoes unless anchored among deep, cold shades.

Shades of blue complement skin tones perfectly. From light baby blue to deep ultramarine, these azure hues endure vibrantly through decades.

While blue isn't my daily muse, I have to admit there’s no better way to create a lasting contrast to a tattoo than by balancing warm colors with blue and black.

“Once upon a time in a quaint little town, there was a mysterious toy shop named ‘Whimsy Wonders’. It was known for selling dolls that seemed to have a life of their own. Nestled between cobblestone streets and charming cafes, the shop drew the attention of children and adults alike.

At the heart of Whimsy Wonders was a collection of dolls known as Blythe dolls. These dolls had large, captivating eyes that seemed to hold the secrets of a thousand stories. Each Blythe doll had a unique personality, waiting to be discovered by its future owner.”

As for me, I find pure joy in bringing these captivating Blythe dolls to life through my tattoo artistry. Their big eyes, petite noses, and lips create a truly unique look that I can't get enough of. The pure skin tones, natural hair, and the myriad of clothing options, not to mention their special realistic moods, make them perfect subjects for my tattooing canvas. Fun fact: I clinched the “Best in Show” award at Treviso Tattoo Convention in Italy with one of these doll-inspired masterpieces.

In 2018, it marked my fourth visit to Milan, and that's when I made the decision to take a course for my EU certificate, allowing me to tattoo across Europe where regulations apply. I had crossed paths with Dimitri, the owner of Officina, a couple of years before. He's a genuinely nice and funny guy, a successful businessman, and fortunately, he runs one of the best tattoo schools in Italy. I traded a workshop for this somewhat pricey course and also had the pleasure of joining the contest at the Milano Tattoo Convention with a few folks from Officina.

The entire course spanned two weeks, from dawn till dusk, with only one day off. The first week was all about theory, delving into a wealth of information on virology, dermatology, epidemiology, psychology, first aid, laws and regulations, and even workspace planning. Being not entirely fluent in Italian, it was no cakewalk. Fortunately, a hefty book of essentials and my years of practice came to the rescue. By the way, the theoretical knowledge from this course still influences my work, especially when I'm putting together my textbooks.

The second week shifted focus to practice, and breezing through this part was a delight. I also connected with a guy from the course who volunteered to be my exam model. On the eve of the exam, we had a good time, sharing beers. He got a straightforward tattoo, and several days later, I heard the surprising news that he had been imprisoned for murder. So it goes.
