In my childhood, the biggest stroke of luck was coming back from art school and finding the neighbor's boy in the courtyard with a skateboard. It was the only skateboard in our entire neighborhood.

When I earned some money, I ordered a longboard from America. I fulfilled my childhood dream, and that dream pushed me towards a new activity - customizing sneakers.

I would look at my vibrant photos with the longboard and think, "Everything in this photo is beautiful, except for those plain black sneakers. Why do manufacturers create such dull and unattractive footwear?”

How to preserve a painting for centuries?

The right choice of a finishing varnish will preserve your painting. However, if you make a mistake in the selection, you risk damaging the finished artwork.

Here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

Consider the materials used in your artwork. Any acrylic varnish will work for acrylic paintings. Choosing a varnish for oil paintings is more challenging.

Pay attention to the composition of the diluent you used for oil paints during your work. I use a mixture called "triple diluent" which includes linseed oil, turpentine, alcohol, and dammar resin. Therefore, the base of my finishing varnish is also dammar resin (dammar varnish).

If your diluent contains one type of resin and your finishing varnish contains a different type, it may result in material conflict.

Depending on your preferences and the desired effect for the painting, you can choose a matte, semi-matte, or glossy finishing varnish.

Refer to the manufacturer's instructions. Some varnishes may require multiple coats and specific drying times between layers.

You can test the varnish on a small area of the painting to ensure that it won't damage or alter the appearance of your artwork (and meets your expectations).

In my childhood, I wanted to be a fencer. The coach told me that I was too fragile and that sports weren't for me. A year later, I became one of the best in the group.

In art university, they told me that I had no talent. Over the years of my career as an artist, I entered the top 50 artists of 2022-23.

Yesterday, I unpacked my first airbrush. I couldn't make anything work; I blushed, got angry, and cried. My brain resisted solving the new task and said, 'Sell the airbrush. You won't be able to handle it. Nothing will work out. Take oil and let's paint a picture.'

I always choose to be relentless.

"I bought a painting from a professional and after a month it turned into trash”.

Today, I read such a message in one of the art chats.

This girl loves art and sometimes buys expensive paintings to decorate her home. She bought a new painting for her living room. Once a month, she would dust the paintings with a slightly damp cloth.
When she cleaned the new painting, she discovered that the colorful layer was damaged. Why did this happen?

Artists use oil paints or acrylic paints to create their paintings. Oil paints are oil-based and require a special thinner.

Acrylic paints are water-soluble. If the artist painted the picture with oil and did not cover it with a finishing varnish, this cleaning method will not damage the colorful layer. But if the artist painted the picture with acrylic (water-soluble paint) and did not apply a finishing varnish, the colorful layer will be damaged.

When buying a painting, clarify with the artist what materials were used and whether the painting has a finishing varnish.

But I do not recommend cleaning paintings from dust using wet fabric (even if the painting is done in oil and coated with a finish varnish). Use a soft dry fabric or a soft fluffy brush to clean the painting from dust. I always use a brush.
