We are delighted to welcome applications for a Georgian Polyphonic Singing Workshop in Omalo, Tusheti, taking place between 16-24 August, 2026

🗓️ The workshop will take place August in our residency and will be led by Davit Shughliashvili, joined by Levan Bitarovi.

▶️Over the course of the workshop, participants will work with Georgian polyphonic songs from different regions - learning, practicing, and understanding their structure and context. The process moves between guided sessions and more open moments of practice and exchange.

📓The workshop is open to participants of different backgrounds, with some prior experience in singing expected. People will work together in different formats - sometimes as a group, sometimes in smaller constellations, sometimes individually.

⛰️ Set in the landscape of Tusheti, the workshop also unfolds outside of formal sessions — through shared time, listening, and working in different environments.

🎶 The workshop includes:
– learning and practicing polyphonic songs from different regions of Georgia
– introduction to traditional chant and selected urban songs
– sessions on ethnomusicology and historical context
– listening sessions and discussions
– excursions, including singing in different environments and near places of worship
The daily schedule is divided into two sessions. Toward the end, the group will come together for a small performance of the material developed during the workshop.

🎞️We’re opening applications for After Mountain, a 10-day black & white film photography workshop in Omalo, Tusheti.

🗓️The workshop will take place at our residency between August 5-14 and will be led by Elene Sidanomindze .films and Elene Kobidze

The 10-day workshop, intended for both amateur and more experienced photographers, has been running at Aqtushetii since 2019 and has welcomed people from all around the world. Participants work alongside each other, in pairs, groups, or individually. Some parts of the workshop are guided, others are more open.

⛰️ Tusheti offers a remarkable landscape and ancient villages, giving a wide range of possibilities for what you choose to capture and focus on.

🧪The workshop includes:
– basics of film photography & film cameras
– shooting & excursions
– film developing
– darkroom printing

Toward the end of the workshoo we’ll gather whatever has come out of the process: prints, fragments, attempts and put together a small presentation / exhibition.

✅PARTICIPATION COST:💰 1,200 EUR
(includes transport Tbilisi-Omalo-Tbilisi, accommodation, three daily meals, BW film rolls, darkroom chemicals, photo paper)

Omalo is the main village of Tusheti, lived in mostly during the warmer months. Families return here each summer, while in winter only a few remain, guarding the villages as they have done for years and years.

Our residency sits in the heart of Omalo, fenced in by a long line of Caucasus mountains, and many that come to visit here end up returning.

Aqtushetii is excited to announce the open call for Caucasus All Frequency 2026, a composers’ residency and workshop taking place August 24 – September 2 in Tusheti, Georgia.

The residency is intended for musicians, composers, sound designers, and other sonic practitioners interested in the relationship between traditional music practices and contemporary composition, music technology, and creative collaboration.

📌 Led by musicians and composers Ben Wheeler (Ben Wheeler ) and Giorgi Koberidze (COBERT ), the program will include masterclasses, discussions, and collaborative sessions exploring new approaches to folk music, music technology, and global music theory.

To apply:

▫️ No formal academic background is required — applicants from all kinds of musical practices are welcome
▫️ Send a brief portfolio (with links to your work)
▫️ Include a short statement about your background

🏷️ Participation fee: €1150 (all inclusive)
This covers transport Tbilisi ⇄ Omalo, accommodation, three meals per day

We’re opening applications for our ten-day workshop on traditional Tushetian wool craft, held at our residency in Omalo, Tusheti — 26 July–4 August 2026.

From raw fleece to finished textile: participants will work through the full craft process with local specialist and ethnographer Nanuli Azikuri — covering traditional weaving, wool processing, natural dyeing, and fieldwork to gather wild dye plants in the Caucasus mountains, with translation provided by workshop facilitators Ana Gvelesiani and Tamara Kalkhitashvili Omalo Fiber Guild

🔖No prior experience required. Open to all backgrounds. Places are limited.

💰 Participation fee: 1,200 EUR
Includes transport, accommodation, meals, and all necessary materials and tools.

OPEN CALL — AQTUSHETII ART RESIDENCY

📢Aqtushetii is now accepting applications for this year’s residency program.
Each summer, creatives from around the world gather here to work independently, exchange ideas, and spend time immersed in the landscape and local culture of Tusheti.
We welcome artists working across all disciplines!

➡️Residency Period
15 July — 15 October 2026
Minimum stay: 1 month
Capacity: Maximum three artists in residence at any given time.

➡️What we offer
* Accommodation
* Three daily meals
* Studio access
* Production support

Studios may be private or shared depending on availability.
✅Fee
€70 per day
Travel costs are not included.
