If you are new to dance, returning after a break or a well experienced mover and shaker, we have a class for you. We offer Ballet and Contemporary classes for adults of three levels. (Beginners, improvers and Inter/advanced. Our classes focus on the physicality of dance technique with an emphasis on the joy of movement. We also have a programme for older adults 55+. Message to find out more information and start dates of the next 5 week blocks.

Boys like any other young person need a non judgemental space to be creative, to be physical and develop their own identity. Being taught and mentored by male dance artists helps navigate what it is to be male in today's world. This. Over everything.

We want to welcome more teenage girls so that they can feel this. If you are a female identifying young person who has stopped dancing and would like to return or has never tried dance before we have a free class every Monday just for you.

Move and Bloom begins on 14th September, 5.30pm - 6.30pm.
Come along to try it out, no sign up's, no uniforms, no exams or competitions, no filming or pressure to perform. A place to fall in love with the movement, surround yourself with supportive people and where you can be yourself.

Watching young people grow and flourish into incredible adults is truly a gift. This is Aimee, started York Dance Space 10 years ago. Aimee is a founding member of York Youth Dance, she has done nearly every performance and project plus more. We are so grateful so many young people choose to spend their time with us at York Dance Space.

One creative task, 19 responses. Amber and Rosie's fit together nicely and has the visual effect we were looking for for this section. They taught their solos to their peers to create this moment. So many skills being developed through this process and the work is rich for having the young persons creative ideas in it 💦

Yesterday was the first day in 10 years where we double booked the studio for hire. We had to let a group of people down...

Yesterday was the first day in 10 years where we double booked the studio for hire. We had to let a group of people down as we had booked a group holding an audition at the same time as a group rehearsing. We were frantically trying to ring around to try and find a rehearsal space for the group. Luckily they managed to contact Spotlight Dance Academy who had their studio available and provided their space at such short notice.
We have obviously refunded the group the hire cost for the double booking and also refunded them the hire cost of a rehearsal they did in July. We are also covering the cost of the studio at Spotlight for the emergency hire.
Regardless of money we feel rubbish about the whole mess up and unnecessary stress caused to both hire groups.
We are writing this as we feel it's healthy to show the lows as well as the highs of running a dance organisation.
We hope this will never happen again but sometimes life gets busy and mistakes happen. One thing we will always do is hold our hands up and own the mess up!
