Caroline Utterson Textiles and Embroidery

Caroline Utterson Textiles and Embroidery Textile artist from York, inspired by nature, creating one-off, free-machine embroidered artwork. Solo exhibition at The Yorkshire Arboretum June/July 2025.

It's Cute was officially launched on Friday 13th September 2013. The name was coined as a result of a happy acronym of my name and what I do. Caroline Utterson Textiles and Embroidery. I am greatly inspired by animals, nature, my Northern roots and my love of travel and photography. Forever taking photos of anything that catches my eye, I then convert my pictures into textile artworks, using fabri

cs, threads, paints and bits and bobs which have been collected over the years. Most of my artwork can be bought as mounted or framed prints, but I can also produce one-off, bespoke pictures for special occasions. Please send me a message if you would like me to create something extra special for you.

Just as I thought that nobody liked birds anymore, (well, specifically my embroidered birds!) this little fella flew off to his new home! It’s a good job, because I love birds and photographing and stitching them! ‘Nuthatch on the Mossy Oak’ is one of my all time favourites, I so enjoyed making his 3D dinner, particularly the mealworms and carrot! Plus his very mossy tree. Lots of lovely textures to play with! I’m sad to see this one go, but, again, that’s the whole point of being a professional (ish!) artist 🙈😂

I can’t believe it’s a whole week since the end of York Open Studios! What an absolutely amazing couple of weekends it was! I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to come and see me and my fellow artists at Venue 27 South Bank Studios It was the busiest it’s ever been!

The weeks leading up to and during the event were manic for me as I’m such a last minute person. I was at the studio until late every single night, including both Saturdays during, mounting more prints as they were so popular! I just can’t believe how many people loved my work enough to buy it, it truly astounds me and I’m so incredibly grateful. ☺️

I’m still trying to recharge my batteries but a couple of lovely days out in the sunshine and nature have helped a lot! I will be back to making more art soon.

If you’re still waiting for your pictures to be delivered, I will be in contact again shortly! Speaking of batteries, my car has been at the garage for much of the week. It now has a new battery and cam belt, (thank you for the sales to fund this!! 🙏🏼) so fingers crossed for my 19 year old banger! 🚙😅

Here are some of my original embroideries which found new homes. Some tiny, some big and lots in between!
Just as I was about to give up art, you have given me fresh hope. For that, I am truly thankful. And a little bit confused! Watch this space to see what’s next for me. I don’t actually know! But thank you all so very much for your support and encouragement, it means everything. 💜

Thank you so much to everyone who came to visit us at Venue 27 today, on day 3 of . It was another cracking day, despite it being a bit quieter due to the gorgeous sunshine! ☀️
My day got off to a great start when my ‘Sunny Robin’ flew off to his new home! He was adopted by a lovely couple from London! A bit sad to see him go but have to keep reminding myself that this is my living, and selling them is the whole point 🤣. Hopefully getting me closer to my elusive house with a garden, a bird table and a washing line- I don’t want for much!
Thank you all so much, it really does mean the world to me ☺️🖤💛
Let’s do it all again tomorrow, the very last day before I disappear again!

Thank you so very much to all the lovely people who came along to York Open studios last weekend, it was truly brilliant! I don’t think I’ve ever seen it so busy, I barely had time to drink coffee! I’m thrilled that several of my original pieces found new homes, including my brand new ‘Yorkshire Bluebells’ piece. To a wonderful couple who now have a whole collection of my embroideries. 💜

I’m so grateful to everyone who popped by, for all the lovely words of encouragement and of course, the sales, which make this whole art dream a reality. It’s a tough gig being an artist, but events like this are everything. I’m so thankful to be a (selected) part of York’s biggest and best arts festival, York Open Studios.

I’ve not stopped making, sewing, framing and mounting all week, and I probably won’t until Sunday! You’ve got to make hay while the sun shines and it certainly is at the moment! Lots more goodies being made, ready to do it all again this weekend!

It’s just 3 weeks until York Open Studios so I should be finishing work so that I can get it scanned, mounted and framed. But I couldn’t resist starting a new one this week, after seeing some of the rhododendrons were ‘out out’ at Castle Howard Arboretum last Sunday! It was lovely to be back there again after quite a few months. So many beautiful flowers and trees are Springing to life. It’s definitely my favourite season at the Yorkshire Arboretum.
So here’s another work in progress. I’ve got an entire folder full of pictures that I started and just can’t seem to finish until I absolutely have to! It’s going to be an extremely busy three weeks! 😅

Blimey, it’s been a while! Sorry I haven’t posted in ages. I’ve been trying to get myself out of a black hole. The end of last year was a lot. We lost several wonderful people. Amongst the sadness though, a tiny little miracle appeared, out of nowhere, like a little ray of sunshine. Unfortunately, on the day of my friend’s funeral, our miracle began to leave us. The next few days were horrific and the weeks after were a blur. Then came Christmas and my birthday (which I shared with said friend), both were a struggle.
It’s amazing how your whole world and future plans can change in a day. I didn’t apply for much art stuff this year as I was meant to be otherwise occupied 👶. Now I just look like I’m slacking! 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, I’ve been struggling to do any decent art lately, hence my lack of posts. But today, with the help of a good run on my new treadmill, which my partner bought me for my birthday (tell me I’m fat without telling me I’m fat 🤣). And a quiet studio (thank you half term 🙏🏼) and the radio blasting great tunes (don’t shoot me, nobody else is here!) I am finally getting stuck into something bigger than a 2 inch square! 🙌🏻

Sorry if that was an over share, I’ve been toying with what to write for weeks. I just felt that I needed to explain my disappearance 🫥. Also, I really wish there was more as I personally have felt very alone.

Here’s to , and hopefully more being made in the next few weeks, ready for 💪🏻💛🖤.

Ps. This is absolutely not a pity post. I know people go through much, much worse things. I just sometimes have to write things down in order to be able to move on with my life.
