Led by Royal Ballet teacher Miss Donya and her talented team, our welcoming studios offer a beautiful place to discover dance at any ability level. En Pointe is our vibrant, creative dance school which offers professional expert teaching to all of their students here in historic York. Ballet is at the heart of the school and we are proud to teach the world recognised Classical Ballet RAD syllabus.

We teach a range of classes to all ages in our newly designed studios including Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap and Acro. En Pointe Dance School engages its students with our fun and inspiring classes that are designed specifically to the students age and ability. Favourite dance style to teach and why?
Contemporary. I love exploring the many different ways we can use movement to tell a story and express emotion. I also love how contemporary dance draws on so many different styles and techniques, giving dancers the freedom to explore their own individuality and creativity.

What do you love about working at EP?
I love that En Pointe is a safe and supportive space for so many young people and, for many, a real home away from home. As a teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to be able to support young dancers throughout their journey, helping them grow not only in their technique and performance, but also in their confidence and belief in themselves.

Favourite ballet or musical?
Hamilton or Billy Elliot

Favourite dance move?
Any contemporary floor work 🤩

Favourite dance style to teach and why? Acro because I used to be a gymnast and love all things upside down! Acro is an exciting combination of acrobatics, strength and artistry rolled into one.

What do you love about working at EP? The friendly staff and wonderful training studios.

Favourite dance move? Head spin, Handstand and Aerial!

The summer break is almost over and in just 6 days, we’ll be back dancing at En Pointe. We genuinely can’t wait to get everyone back into the studios.

And with a new term about to begin, it feels like the perfect time to welcome some new faces too.

So this week, we’re opening our studios to anyone who has been thinking about giving dance a try.

No experience needed. No pressure. Just come along, meet us, try a class and see how it feels.

Because one class could simply be something fun to try after school. Or it could be the beginning of something they absolutely love.

Come and give En Pointe a try this September.

Favourite dance style to teach and why? “Honestly, my favourite dance style is whichever one I’m teaching in that exact moment! I feel so grateful to share so many different genres with my students, and each one brings its own unique joy to me.”

What do you love about working at EP? “The annual dance shows are hands-down my favourite part of working at EP! I love every single step of the process—the choreography, the cleaning, the costumes, and the stage production. The absolute best feeling is seeing all that hard work pay off when my students get to perform their hearts out on stage for their loved ones.”

Favourite ballet or musical? “My favourite ballet is definitely Coppélia - it’s such a classic, and it is super fun to both watch and perform! As for musicals, my favorite right now is Legally Blonde. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack non-stop lately!”

Favourite dance move? “Pirouettes from the corner!!! If you know, you know!! There is nothing quite like the rush of nailing them turns across the floor!”
