On 5 July, Mother Earth returned to the streets of York, bringing its message about pollution, climate change, and our relationship with the planet, while inviting people to pause, listen, watch, and reflect.
The performance made its way from York Art Gallery to York Minster and the Shambles, bringing together Ana Silvério’s expressive dance and the powerful voice of Aracelly Firmo to explore the role each of us can play in shaping the future of our shared home.
Among the many memorable moments of the day was seeing audiences stop in their tracks to watch, reflect, and engage with the performance. One particularly moving moment came when a little girl, no more than five or six years old, was moved to tears at the end of the dance. Later, in the Shambles, another audience member shared how deeply the performance had moved her.
Art has a unique way of touching hearts, starting conversations, and reminding us that every action—no matter how small—can help protect our planet.
