New Visuality

New Visuality A York based visual arts charity. Directors: Greg and Ails McGee. New Visuality is a registered charity. This is where New Visuality step in."

Recently funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund for new project 'Young Town Planners', engaging 30 young disadvantaged people. We celebrate UK contemporary art on every day level, form its inception, to its execution and its exhibition. The Artists we source are the best of the new collectables; the skills we impart are solid and sustainable. The Artwork integrates into exhibitions with that of m

arginalized groups. So you'll find a painting, an artefact, ceramics, jewellery, textile art from emerging contemporary artists alongside work by someone who may have experienced homelessness or domestic abuse or a mental breakdown. The cycle of social exclusion is to break, but when we wield city centre exhibitions all over Europe and in Moscow, and when the work is as collectable as the art used to inspire it, and the sales o collectors bring in much needed income and participation leads to paid employment, then we know we're on to something. New Visuality uses contemporary art and the most innovative technology to raise aspirations, and consolidate CVs and employability, and never once do we lose sight of our most basic building block: that the art generated in our projects, whether its traditional, digital, or 3D prototypes, has to be uniquely fabulous and desirable. "We are keen to unleash the sharpest art graduates from UK's universities here in Moscow. There are exhibition spaces we could use, Russian curators who would ump at the chance to get involved and a growing number of collectors who are keen to see what UK artists have to offer"
Crichton Brauer, Managing Director of Globus International

"There is a lot of scope for UK artists through New Visuality to exhibit in public spaces and even in our guided walks through our 1000 ancient 'caves' here in San Giorgio Lucano. We would be very grateful to New Visuality to introduce to us their selected artists and the groups with whom they work so we can celebrate them in our annual New Visuality project"
Franco Cirigliano, Mayor of San Giorgio Lucano. " After a year of planning and negotiations, Stage Live are set to organise 3 highly publicised commercial art fairs in 3 major Chinese cities, Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai, all curated by New Visuality. We're making astonishing progress over here in China, and the direction New Visuality is going in is ideal for what we've got in mind for running a Chinese based biennale. There is a lot of interest for this kind of stamp of approval from a UK art project, a lot of Chinese collectors want to see the top slice of UK contemporary art. Max Sanderson, creative director of Chinese based company Stage Live Asia Ltd

We love working with the artists of Westfield and Acomb, whether they're 8 or 82! Here's a cracking article from today's The Press in York celebrating our intergenerational art inspired by York legend Glen Jackson, he of Glen & Julio hairdressing fame.

We love working in Westfield and Acomb. Art and creativity is the best litmus test of the fettle of a place. Going by that, the west of York is thriving! Here's some art from the young folk of Westfield, much of it created in collaboration with the relentlessly successful Westfield Primary Community School, York and our team of teenage advocates.

Thanks Westfield Labour, Andrew Waller, and Westfield, York Local Area Coordination

We love living and working in the west of York.
Huge congratulations to Books & Bevs York on being named York's Best Independent Retailer! 📚☕🏆

What an incredible achievement for a business that has quickly become a much-loved part of the local community. Combining a passion for books, great coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere, Books & Bevs has created something truly special for readers and residents alike. Founded by husband-and-wife team Joe and Allie Long, the shop has become a hub for book lovers, families, and local events.

Independent businesses are the heart of our high streets, and this award is thoroughly deserved. Here's to many more successful chapters ahead!

Congratulations to everyone involved – and if you haven't visited yet, make sure you pop in and show your support. ❤️📖

Here's artwork created by some of our group of 50 young art advocates from the west of York, some attending Manor School, some Westfield Primary Community School, York, some Carr Junior, some York High. All of them proud to have the likes of Books & Bevs on their doorstep.

We love challenging the negative stereotypes that can cling to our favourite areas of York, namely Acomb and Westfield.
We love too to collaborate. York Civic Trust's 'Our Place – Acomb and Westfield' is a really exciting new heritage project that’s all about helping people discover what makes their local area special. Throughout 2026, local residents will be working together to uncover hidden gems, share memories, and tell stories that might otherwise be forgotten. It’s a chance to celebrate the people, places, and history that have shaped Acomb and Westfield over the years. The project also encourages everyone to think about how local heritage can be protected for future generations. By getting involved, people can connect with their community, learn more about where they live, and help build a stronger sense of pride in the area’s past, present, and future together.

Visit the interactive display at Acomb Explore Centre until August to celebrate local heritage. Residents are invited to share memories, nominate meaningful places, and highlight the buildings, spaces, and stories that matter most to them, helping shape the future care and recognition of Acomb and Westfield.

Here's our video celebrating not only York's UNESCO status as a City of Media Arts, but employing the young people from the west of York, an area unfairly negatively stereotyped, to respond creatively to Viborg - UNESCO Creative City Media Arts's glittering gauntlet, 'Who is YOUR Angel of Hope?'
The young people of Acomb and Westfield did their areas proud, drawing, painting, filming with drones, and collaborating with people across York in x4 simultaneous digital Art Jams.
The backbone of the project was provided by City of York Council's HAF programme, and satellite sessions were funded by Acomb ward and Westfield ward.
Onwards!
