Prima Choral Artists

Prima Choral Artists An independent, progressive mixed voice choir in York with an established reputation for outstanding performances & musical diversity.

Meeting on Tuesdays 7.00pm - 8:30pm in South Bank, York. Founded in 2010 by Musical Director Eve Lorian and Pianist Greg Birch, Prima has been at the forefront of York's choral scene for over a decade and provides a welcoming, genre-crossing experience like no other. From the experienced singers to first time members Prima is a natural home. This is the only choir in the area that combines the ver

y best of popular music with inspirational modern orchestral works. In addition to the upbeat rehearsals under the guidance of Eve's leading-edge vocal coaching and expert programming, and Greg's skilful piano accompaniment there are fantastic performance opportunities to showcase the full diversity of this modern ensemble, accompanied by professional musicians.

Since its inception Prima Choral Artists have performed at Carnegie and Royal Albert Halls, Alpine mountaintops, European Cathedrals and "underground churches" - and with Russel Watson, Aled Jones and Sam "X-factor" Bailey!

Collaborations include Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Mowbray Orchestra (Opera North), Prima Concert Orchestra, Baltic Neopolis Quartet, Prima String Quintet, York Railway Institute Band, double Grammy Award winning composer Christopher Tin, top UK bandoneon player Julian Rowlands, American Gospel Jazz and R'n'B artist Monique Thomas, Flamenco/Jazz guitarist, Eduardo Niebla to name just a few.

Under One Sky ☀️🎶
A huge thank you to everyone who made last Sunday’s double Summer Concert such a memorable occasion.

The choir sang with commitment and warmth throughout, bringing ‘s imaginative programme to life - which each time offers a very different musical experience for both singers and audience.

Alongside directing, Eve accompanied on piano, accordion, djembe, tambourine and bodhrán, while overseeing the concert’s sound engineering and stage management as well as much of the work that happens behind the scenes, all essential to bringing a production of such calibre together. She continues to champion both local and international artists, while creating opportunities for Prima’s own musicians and vocalists to shine. ✨

A very Special thanks to incredible singers and performers Briony Sayers-Woolhouse Darren Roberts and Charlotte Root for stepping in at the last minute and contributing so beautifully to the energy and flow in both concerts. Heartfelt thanks to Lucy Charnock (cello), John Nodder (percussion), Paul Brough Jones (rhythm guitar) and Greg Birch (piano) for their wonderful musicianship.

Congratulations to the Prima a ca****la group for their spirited performance of the Venezuelan Evohé, and thank you to magnificent Jacqui McGuinn for her excellent narration and poetry interpretation.

Heartfelt thanks also to everyone who helped on the day - either with box office, social media updates and concert footage. And to the outstanding staff at the National Centre for Early Music whose professionalism and support made the day run so smoothly.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came to listen. Your support is what makes concerts like these possible.💜

What a glorious day yesterday! The two shows were incredible! We sang our hearts out and gave both ourselves and audience a most amazing musical experience. Many thanks above all to Eve Lorian, our inspirational musical director for her huge talent vision and energy in putting it all together. Greg on piano and all the soloists were amazing, and Jacqui the perfect compere. Prima Choral Artists definitely did themselves proud!
