A message from our former Co-Artistic Director Matt Harper:
"4 and a half years ago I started my first project as director for Upstage Centre Youth Theatre, only planning to be there until the end of that show. I was very quickly enraptured by and found my place within the Upstage family. I've laughed until it hurt, cried and screamed but above all else I've been proud - proud of the brilliant work that has been made, proud of all my fellow collaborators and proud of what each and every single young person has achieved! I will carry these memories with me and continue to speak about the productions long into the future. It has been magical.
The whole experience has changed me as a practitioner and solidified in me the importance youth theatre has in our communities. Theatre can happen any time, in any place, but you cannot do it without the right people. So here's to you, ALL of you.
Firstly, to my colleagues, and now friends who never stopped inspiring me with their passion and skill for what we were doing.
Secondly to all the young people - I feel genuinely lucky to have worked with each of them. Seeing their confidence grow and their talents shine - there is no better feeling as a practitioner!!
I wish you all the best for the future and hope I get to work with you again in the future.
I am sad to be leaving, but as any upstager will agree - ONCE UPSTAGE, ALWAYS UPSTAGE.
