What do we do at KINESISdance...?
🌟Part 1🌟
We CREATE & PLAY, we WATCH & LEARN

Reading through this report from One Dance UK focusing on private dance schools, and Arts Council England's research into the 'Value for Children & Young People'. This quote highlights exactly what we value and love about sharing our dance practice with children & young people at KINESISdance!

'Providers described enjoyment, physical and mental wellbeing, confidence, resilience and social connection as important benefits. Dance can help young people build friendships and a sense of belonging, while developing skills and confidence through classes and performance.

The young people who took part in the research described dance as a source of enjoyment, creativity, expression, physical activity and wellbeing. They also spoke about freedom, friendship, stress relief and expressing emotions. As one young dancer put it, dance “helps me relieve stress and express emotion, it’s an escape from reality.”

I always love it when I get the chance to teach this bendy lot on a Saturday! 🤸🏻‍♂️ Great to see their progress (Thanks Janine Hart 👏🏼) Today, I set them a creative task in groups, starting with individual skills & tricks which they had to link together smoothly, work into a sequence and perform to each other! 🤩

💜

One Dance UK is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sir Richard Alston CBE. Alongside his extraordinary contribution to British contemporary dance, Sir Richard was, for many years, a true friend to this organisation: a mentor, a champion, and a generous presence in the lives of the young dancers and choreographers we support through our Children and Young People’s work.

Sir Richard initially served as Chair of Youth Dance England, one of One Dance UK’s forerunner organisations. Following the merger, he became a Champion of our U.Dance and Young Creatives programmes, first personally and later through his foundation. He continued to work with young dancers in this capacity right up to the 2025 U.Dance National Festival, where he delivered workshops and demonstrations to hundreds of young people alongside two of his former dancers. His generosity with his time and experience cannot be overstated.

Laura Nicholson, Interim Chief Executive and Head of Children and Young People’s Dance, said:
“Sir Richard took young people's ideas seriously. To him, they were not students to be corrected, but artists in development whose work deserved thorough thought and attention. His generosity, kindness and genuine interest in every young person he met made a lasting impression. We were incredibly privileged to work with him, and we will work hard to honour his memory.”

We are deeply thankful for everything Richard gave to this organisation and to the young people who came through our programmes. His work will continue to be performed, taught and loved, and the space he made for young dancers and choreographers to find their own voices will remain part of his legacy for generations to come.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who were lucky enough to know and work with him.

📣CALLING ALL BOYS!📣
At KINESISdance we believe dance should be for EVERYBODY! Through all our classes, work in schools and education, community projects, and health & wellbeing workshops, it is clear to see the benefits of dance for young people of all ages.
🟣🤸🏻 Today we are focusing on Dance for Boys! We understand that boys who are interested in Dance & Movement need a safe space where they can express themselves, develop their technique and build on their creativity and performance skills! All of our classes are mixed and we support each of our dancers individuality, welcoming anyone who wants to learn with us!
🟣🤸🏻Whether you want to develop strength & flexibility & fly in our creative CONTEMPORARY dance, or learn top rocks, corkscrews, freezes, popping & locking & hip hop in our STREET Dance classes, we are always keen to welcome more boys into our classes! 🪩Festival No. 2!🪩
I have worked with students from Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy for a number of years, taking them to perform at dance festivals every year! They are a wonderful group of dancers to work with, always keen to challenge themselves, learn and create new exciting choreography, and absolutely LOVE performance day! Here are some stunning pics from their dance last November and back stage shots which perfectly capture the excitement & fun of the day! 😍🤩

🌟Dance Festivals are such a big part of what we do at KINESISdance - they are the perfect opportunity to work towards something special, take part in a big event along with lots of other dancers, groups & schools, and often give children & young people the opportunity to perform in theatres, stages & outdoor spaces they may have not previously experienced. Here are some wonderful shots from the amazing children at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School in Leeds performing for the very first time at the Everybody Dance Festival last November! It was a magical experience for them & I was so proud of them all 🥰
