The Crescent Community Venue is York's latest fully-licensed, open-access, creative space. A former Working Men's Club, it has a long history of community spirit and musical entertainment spanning over 100 years. It will now be run as a family business aiming to provide an inclusive alternative venue for all members of the community. The venue contains:

100 capacity bar with:
Projector and wall-m

ounted screen
DJ Booth & 2kW sound system
Pool table, bar billiards table, bar & board games, retro computer games

250 capacity concert room with:
Large stage and separate DJ booth
Professional 6kW sound system & lighting
Industry standard live and DJ equipment
Separate bar and toilets
Wooden dancefloor


Standard opening hours:
Monday & Tuesday – 5 pm - 11:00 pm
Wed - Friday – 4 pm - 12 am
Saturday - 5 pm - 12 am
Sunday – 5 pm - 11 pm

Regular weekly events – Front Bar from 7pm:
Monday – Dominoes
Wednesday – Open Decks (anything goes on Vinyl, CD, USB or Laptop, all welcome)
Thursday – Dominoes & Bar Billiards
Weekends – DJs and bands/solo acts from 7pm

Ah yeah, Mr Chuck Regan is coming to play for us in January.

People discover Chuck Ragan in different ways. Some people know Ragan from the pioneering punk act Hot Water Music he’s co-fronted for the past three decades. Others are aware of his successful solo career or the Revival Tour, a collection of traveling troubadours that included his peers like Frank Turner and the The Gaslight Anthem Anthem’s Brian Fallon.

The England World Cup group stage games conclude this week and we've got both games live on the big screens! Ghana on Tuesday (9pm k.o) and Panama on Saturday (10pm k.o). The back room opens 1 hour before kick off, make sure to get down early to get the best seats

Two ace new shows on sale today at The Crescent!

UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, producer and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Pearson, and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Richard Walters are LYR They have a brand new album out now on Real World Records and did a beaut session for Mark Riley & Gideon Coe last night.

They play in York for the first time on December 7th.

And in October we welcome back some of our very fave guests. Rock’n’roll trio The Wave Pictures released a banging album for new label Bella Union in Feb and they coming to play it for us on Oct. 21st.

Rousing Geordie jazz outfit Knats are coming to The Crescent on Sunday 25th October!

Latest album A Great Day In Newcastle is a stormer, an edgy, hip bop of wicked grooves and social consciousness.

Knats, a quintet led by two lifelong best mates from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Stan Woodward (Bass) and King David-Ike Elechi (Drums), alongside their younger sidekick and virtuoso Trumpeter, Ferg Kilsby, making Geordie Jazz, with sophisticated arrangements, strong melodies and danceable grooves.

After moving to London at the end of 2022, Knats took London by storm playing sold out Jazz Refreshed and Rough Trade East headliners, supporting Str4ta at a sold Jazz Cafe and performing for the BBC proms; as well as working with and backing the likes of Geordie Greep and Eddie Chacon and collaborating with major fashion brands Palace, Beams and Arc’teryx.

After signing to Gearbox Records at the beginning of 2024, 2025 saw Knats release their debut self-titled album at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 mixed by the legendary Hugh Padgham. The album has gained critical acclaim from the likes of Jazzwise, Rolling Stone Japan, The Guardian and many more.

Tonight we host the launch event for the York Literary Review anthology 2026. There will be performances and readings from the anthology contributors. Although free to audience members, charity donations in cash are encouraged, so please do bring cash along on the night...

🎧 Open Decks - Tuesday from 7pm 🎧

⚽ England kick off their World Cup campaign on Wednesday evening against Croatia and we've got the whole thing lives across both rooms. The back room will open from 8pm for the build up to the game which will be broadcast on our (very) big screen. The Front Bar opens as normal from 4pm and the game will be shown across two screens there. Free Entry // Fully Seated // First Come First Served ⚽

On Thursday night we welcome founding members of the Nortec Collective and Mexican electronic music pioneers Bostich + Fussible as part of their 25th anniversary tour. Expect a dense, rhythmic interplay between electronic patterns and live instrumentation and an energetic dancefloor

Nine Below Zero return to York for the first time since the late '90s on Friday night, with limited tickets available via our website. We'll also have the first of two free Front Bar parties, with providing the tunes from 7pm

Captain Mustache Apparel brings his Beard & Moustache competition once more to The Crescent on Saturday from 12pm and then Herbal Mafia will host a Summer Solstice party in the Front Bar from 8pm until 2am. Entry to this is free with a ticket (available via the links at Bob Yenz) otherwise it's a fiver on the door if there's any space left

On Sunday we take a breather from the madness with some World Cup action. Spain vs Saudi Arabia (5pm k.o) and Belgium vs Iran (8pm k.o) both live in the front bar

You cool kids have plenty to go at this week (like normal 😎) with Tuesday's eclectic bill of four alternative York bands and Saturday's experimental rock/post punk textures with A Man Is Scared headlining. Tickets are available for both via our website and Saturday's gig will be followed by a Free Entry party in the Front Bar until 2am courtesy of

The World Cup kicks off on Thursday and we'll be showing the game live in our Front Bar on the big screen. Free entry / no booking required and remember we'll have all the England games live over two big screens throughout the tournament!

Two era-defining artists come together this autumn!

Formed in 1977, Scottish quartet opened for The Clash before signing for Virgin Records, consistently bothering the charts over a four albums in four years period and working with legendary Be Bob Deluxe guitarist Bill Nelson.

Joined by Theatre Of Hate founded by Kirk Brandon in 1980 and released their hit debut album which was recorded by Mick Jones. Their light shone briefly and brightly in the early 80’s before their split and Kirk moved on to form Spear Of Destiny.
