Step into Truvy’s home beauty parlour in the fictional town of Chinquapin in 1980s Louisiana. Here a group of strong women meet regularly to get their hair done, their nails manicured and catch up on local gossip and exchange life stories. Those of you who are familiar with the 1989 movie of the same name may not know that this is a play offering some amazing roles, purely for the ladies.
There are 6 parts, pretty much equal in size, all offering great opportunities to show off your performing prowess .
The characters in the play are as follows … the ages are a rough guide:
Truvy Jones, owner of the beauty parlour (mid 30s to mid 50s)
Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, beauty parlour apprentice (late teens to early 30s)
Clairee Belcher, local celebrity and philanthropist, elegant and sophisticated (late 50s to early 70s)
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie, the prettiest girl in town (20s to early 30s)
M’Lynn Eatenton, Shelby’s mother, socially prominent career woman (50s to 60s)
Ouiser Boudreaux, wealthy curmudgeon, acerbic but loveable (late 50s to early 70s)
