MIA TAYLOR - FRAGMENTS

17-27 JUNE

Fragments is a solo exhibition of large-scale abstract paintings by Mia Taylor, inspired by the shifting forms, colours, and seasonal rhythms of the artist’s garden, allotment, and Somerset skies.

Blending floral suggestion with cloud-like atmospheres, the paintings move between earth and sky, where forms emerge, dissolve, and reform through layered acrylic paint and softened colour fields.

Subtle hexagonal patterns run throughout the work, referencing bee populations and the delicate balance between pollinators, plants, and the wider environment

The exhibition invites viewers into a calm, reflective space shaped by weather, memory, seasonal change, and the natural world close to home.

We were really thrilled this week to bring together the artists and members of our Art Action Group for Yeovil Reimagine in a site visit to Glovers Walk and to gather at Yeovil Art Space.

A day of inspiring conversations, talking about collaboration and connection and possibility.

The artists will be working with local communities and residents bringing together relevant and meaningful art and culture in Yeovil town centre.

Sarah's exhibition is accompanied by this text, and extract from which is here...

CREATIVITY by Daisaku Ikeda
"The times when I feel most deeply that I have done something creative are the times when I have thrown myself wholeheartedly into a task and fought it through unstintingly to its conclusion.  At such times, I feel that I have won out in the struggle to enlarge myself.

It is a matter of sweat and tears.  The creative life, in short, is achieved by constant effort to improve one's thoughts and actions, or perhaps we could say it is the dynamism involved in the effort.

You will pass through storms and heavy rains, and at times you may suffer defeat.  The essence of the creative life, however, is not to give up in the face of defeat, but to follow the rainbow that exists within your heart."

Our Saturday Art Club is looking like so much fun right now!

Led by experienced artists and tutors .cross and Amy Chidgey (also Yeovil Creatives) the group have been exploring weird and wonderful still life drawing and these super cool model figures with their very own joyfully coloured backdrops.

Last month we were delighted to join Earth Day at Yeovil Country Park, YEOVIL COUNTRY PARK. This amazing event encouraged understanding of the climate, and was a celebration of the natural world.

Using recycled, donated and secondhand materials we were joined by children of all ages who learnt weaving techniques and how to make pom-poms turning waste into something colourful and fun they could take away.

It was an honour to be part of the day filled with amazing performances, workshops and conversations about the environment.

✨ Gorgeous exhibition 'Beneath the Act' by Jackie Hughes is on display with us from 23 - 30 May! ✨

Extract from accompanying text...

"This body of work celebrates the quiet strength and resilience carried by women. Using cyanotype, archival imagery, and botanical forms, figures appear composed and self-contained, holding stories beneath the surface. Hand and machine embroidery bring these hidden layers into view, tracing moments of vulnerability, endurance, and growth.

Rooted in personal experience and a wider shared narrative, the work reflects a journey through challenge towards strength. Softness becomes a source of power, not fragility. Each piece honours what is often unseen—inner resilience, healing, and the beauty that emerges through adversity."

Opening times:

Creativity and Wellbeing week ✨️

Art and Creativity comes in so many forms. For lots of people it provides a way to express yourself that words can't always do on their own. It can be inspiring and exciting or bring calm and solace and everything in between. It can provide a space to just be and enjoy the process.

We know the power of viewing art and having creativity in everyday life and our general surroundings can be so positive!

So we just had to give a shout out to our wonderful Wellbeing Art Club, with a complete array of the things they have been up to when they carve out a couple of hours of their week for creativity.

From the Wellbeing club to our Saturday Art Club and YAY, in fact any workshops and exhibitions we run from YAS, and with our Yeovil Creatives, creativity connects people to each other and themselves! ✨️
