‘Summer Concert’ Saturday 16th May 2026 3:00pm
St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Canterbury CT1 2BQ

It’s nearly here! Next Saturday we will be performing our annual concert in aid of Canterbury homeless charity Catching Lives.

We will be singing as usual with our good friends from Old Wives Lees Community Choir - a lovely programme of music both sacred and secular.

Do come and enjoy a great performance by two exceptional local Community Choirs! Admission is free and refreshments are included - however we do hope that we can induce you instead to give generously to our chosen charity - a really worthy cause.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Steve Guthrie 31.05.1950 – 31.03.2026

It is with great sadness that I report the death of our friend Steve, following a two-year fight with cancer. Originally from the northeast of England, Steve moved into a unit in Kempe’s Almshouses in 2015. He became a familiar figure around Wye, until his illness kept him increasingly housebound, and I’m sure that many of you will recognise him from this picture.

Steve loved living in Wye. He also loved the Kent countryside, and was a great hiker until a few years ago. He also enjoyed singing, and joined the community choir in the village in its very early days. Following lockdown, he was instrumental in getting the revamped choir going again, which has become the Wye Village Community Choir. He sang with us while he was well enough, and continued to serve as the choir Treasurer until his death. He leaves many friends in the choir, and I’m sure that there are also many others in the village who will join us in mourning his passing.

There will not be a funeral, as Steve was not a man of faith. However, his friends and family hope that it may be possible to organise a gathering to celebrate his life, some time in the next few weeks. Please feel free to contact me by leaving a response below, if you would like to be kept informed. And if you have memories of Steve that you would like to share, please do!

Hi everybody - in case you were thinking of joining us tonight, unfortunately we have had to take the decision to CANCEL tonight’s session, due to the icy conditions, and the difficulty in getting to Wye. (Road closure at the rail crossing). Apologies - and see you next week!

Thanks to everybody who came and watched us last evening - and sang along with the carols - at the Wye Christmas Street Party. You were awesome! Thankfully, we managed to get most of our ‘set’ in before the heavens opened!

Many thanks to Alice and all at Our Place Wye for a great event!

If you enjoyed our carol singing, then why not come and see us on Thursday evening, when we are putting on our concert:

‘A CHRISTMAS BOX OF DELIGHTS’.

A lovely evening of Christmas music, readings and carols - and a buffet - and all completely FREE! 7:30 in the Village Hall - see you there!

A date for your diary!

The Wye Village Community Choir Christmas Concert is now in its third year!

And this year it’s completely free!

Come along and join us at the Village Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday 11th December, for an evening of Christmas music and seasonal readings. The choir will sing some beautiful carols for you - some that are not so well known - but all your favourites will also be there, and we’ll be inviting you to sing them along with us! There will be an interval, with free refreshments - mince pies, sausage rolls, fruit punch - and even a glass of wine if you fancy!

Full details are below, but don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. No tickets required - just come along on the night.

You won’t want to miss this - see you there!
