It's been a lush couple of weekends filming for Haemochromatosis UK highlighting Welsh voices impacted by Genetic Haemochromatosis. When I was first approached by the charity, there was only one person I knew who could do this justice with me, and that's Joey of Filmage.co.uk. We've come a long way since he first DM'd me to test out a new camera back in 2017, and we've gone on to work on many high profile projects together.
But this is huge for me, and my pride is twofold. Not only do I get to raise awareness of a condition that impacts me personally, this is my first break in the director and narrator seat! It means so much that HUK have put their trust in us to create their national campaign, which we hope will go on to prompt people to get tested, and ultimately save lives.
1 in 150 people are at risk of Genetic Haemochromatosis in Wales, yet so many of you have never heard of it. Awareness is seriously lacking here, and often by the time someone is diagnosed, iron has accumulated to toxic and damaging levels in their body. Yet it is so so easy to diagnose. A simple iron blood test is all you need to spot high levels of iron.
Huge thanks must go to Sian, Chris and Matt for bravely sharing their stories with us. It is no easy task being vulnerable on camera. Your input has been invaluable ❤️
It's time to change the narrative. We are tired. We are overloaded 🩸
