After Covid thwarted our 1st attempt to run an event, we finally hosted the first of our Detroit Techno Soul parties at the Cellar Arts Club in Worthing in late 2021. We immediately realised there was a clued-up & up-for-it crowd with an appetite for proper deep underground house and techno in this sleepy seaside town we call home. Since then we’ve hosted a number of events & the vibes have been g
etting stronger each time.. Worthing, for those that dont know, has an interesting underground history.. In the early ‘90s, Sterns, at the top of Highdown Hill, was one of the most legendary, unique and forward thinking clubs in the country. DJs like Grooverider, Lenny Dee, Bushwacka, Colin Dale, Colin Favour, Aubrey and Luke Slater would play there regularly and it developed a reputation as a club that pushed Techno music as well as other styles. Underground labels such as Ugly Music and Digital Soul have ties to the town and sprung up in part due to the experiences of partying in Worthing at Sterns in those heady early days. We’re a pair of forward-thinking music-heads & dj’s who have record collections stretching back to before the birth of Techno & we’re looking forward to continuing to bring the freaky hi-tek funk to you lovely people.. We initially coined the name as something of a joke, as anyone who knows Worthing will know how ludicrous it sounds. That said, after 4 parties and 4 amazing, knowledgeable and up for it crowds, our tongues are perhaps not as firmly in our cheek as they were.. but we defer to the OG’s in Detroit and borrow their name with respect..
