This spring’s big choral event is devoted to Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, one of the most beautifully tuneful quasi-operatic masses in the repertoire and described by Rossini as his ‘last sin of old age’. Written for Parisian audiences in 1864, it is a charming mass-setting that is neither small nor solemn but instead dances with joy and vitality.

You can look forward to a richly melodious and highly entertaining evening of exceptional choral music.

Yesterday was a truly special day. We are incredibly proud to have achieved another podium finish at the Midlands Area Brass Band Championships seeing us qualify for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall this October – the first time in the band’s history that we will appear on that iconic stage.

This result continues a period of progress for the band, marking our 4th consecutive 3rd place finish at the Midlands Regional Championships and most recently our win at the LBBA Open, reflecting the hard work and commitment of the band as we continue to build and improve.

Huge congratulations and thanks must go to our Music Director Jack Capstaff, our brilliant players and their friends and family who support everything we do.

We have been completely overwhelmed by the messages of support and congratulations since the result was announced – thank you to everyone who has taken the time to get in touch. It really does mean a lot.

An additional thank you also to those who have supported our preparations along the way, including Paul Holland, Mark Wilkinson and Mark Landon as well as some final week feedback from Dave Purkiss.

Congratulations to National Champions Desford Colliery Band on another fantastic performance and 2nd place, and to our friends at The GUS Band for securing yet another Midlands title – very well deserved. Well done also to Newstead Brass, Ratby Co-Operative Band, and Enderby Band who completed a very strong top six.

We are incredibly excited to represent Derbyshire and the wider Midlands on the national stage this October and look forward to the journey ahead.

Thank you for all the support – it really does mean the world.

Last week we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Derwent Brass for a thrilling concert that had our audience completely captivated.

Some highlights for our pupils included the dynamic percussion section, the violinistic cornets, and those incredible bass trombone notes in Hacienda that really shook the room!

We’re not at all surprised to hear that Derwent Brass have made it through to the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Albert Hall - their dedication, energy and musicianship are truly inspiring.

Hearty congratulations from everyone here at Worksop College Concert Series and Worksop College and Ranby House, and thank you for such a memorable visit!

We had a fantastic evening performing last night as part of the Worksop College Concert Series. It was our first visit to the series and a thoroughly enjoyable one, delivering a varied programme of Heritage to Innovation, from classics such as 'La Forza Del Destino' and 'Labour and Love', through to 'The Hacienda' and 'Hyperdrive'.

It was a pleasure to perform in Churchill Hall, with a great acoustic, and to such a warm and receptive audience. We were especially grateful for the kind feedback after the concert.

One particularly nice connection for the evening was one of the major works in our programme, Elgar Variations, was written by Martin Ellerby, who is originally from Worksop. It felt very fitting to perform the piece in his hometown ahead of the Midlands Regional Championships this weekend.

The Worksop College Concert Series hosts a great range of live performances throughout the year, so if you enjoy live music it’s well worth taking a look at their upcoming events.

Our thanks to everyone involved for the invitation and warm welcome — we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
