Performance Department, University of Worcester

Performance Department, University of Worcester Keep up to date with the Theatre & Performance Department within the University of Worcester.

Shows, opportunities, jobs, our modules, and all the fun interesting things students and staff get up to. Courses in this department allow you to focus on areas of particular interest (theatre/acting, dance and physical movement, music within theatre, touring theatre) whilst developing a shared understanding of how live performance works. Throughout the various degrees the emphasis is placed on le

arning through practice. Teaching takes place in well-equipped drama, dance and music studios and there are many opportunities for public performance. In the first year there are mandatory modules, appropriate to each course, that lay the foundations for learning in your specialist area. The second year focuses on the development of a major public production in which students not only perform but learn about all aspects of production - lighting, sound, movement, stage management, publicity etc. There are then a range of optional modules, appropriate to each course, that widen and deepen your understanding of theatre, performance, music, dance and professional practice. The third year encourages students to broaden their understanding of their subject through a wide range of optional modules, which might include a work placement or other module focussed on future employment . Students also deepen their understanding of an area of specific individual interest through an independent research project or a final performance project. On the Integrated Masters in Touring Theatre, students continue to a 4th year of more independent work and continue to learn the creative, technical, organisational and financial skills required to set up their own theatre company.
