I refuse to accept that it’s getting cold and dark as we head towards winter, so here we’ve got some spring blossom on the branches instead!

Here are the progress pics for my latest painting. 🪶🌸

✨🌱The Earth Is Alive 🌱✨

Wowee The Vision Project is something quite special. You could tell from the exhibition on Saturday, which I was very proud to be a small part of. Music, dance, art, well-being, community…it’s got it all!

This was my inspo for my little art piece. I listened to the music and watched the dance, thought about colours (lots of earthy tones), and imagined the shapes (lots of spirals and circles). Then gave myself 0 time to actually paint, but managed to produce a painting to display. Whoop!

Closer look 👀

I painted the background first, let that dry overnight, then painted the blue tit in an afternoon - very quick for me! Although foolishly I made the background a completely different colour to the bird and used up a fair bit of paint.

Doing a rough sketch of the blue tit first really helped with the direction of the brushstrokes in the background. I thought it would look weird if they all went the same way, so made it much harder for myself by making it look like they were radiating out behind the bird. I just felt it pops more!

Sunset three ways!

Now that I’ve captured this view by camera, canvas and crockery, I think it’s probs time to move on.

There was a mega element of haste with all of these. I could just about see the sun setting from my flat this summer, and if it was looking like a decent sunset I’d peg it up the hill with my Lumix. With the plate, I’ve never speed-painted dots so fast in my life. The 1.5 hour pottery workshop started to feel like a Bake Off technical challenge. And I had to work quick with the painting because my acrylics dry fast! 🏃🏼‍♀️🎨

Sunset over Worcester Cathedral 🌅

A quick afternoon paint of my favourite view in Worcester.

The sky caused me some issues but we got there in the end!

Step-by-step 💃🏼

I’ve gotten in the habit of taking progress photos because I like looking back over the process. I always start off with a sketch to get the proportions, then it’s a case of building it up. There were so many layers to this painting!

You can tell which bit was the hardest because I left it to the end. Sorry ladies, you were bald for a long time 🤣🤣

Happy ! I’ll have my acrylics out later to celebrate, but for now here is my recent commission 👰🏻‍♀️🎨❤️

The dresses were so tricky but SO beautiful to paint. Thank you for trusting me with this project!

Zooming in 👀🔎

I decided to work with a bit more paint than usual for some texture. If I knew what I was doing I’d say the freer brushstrokes were meant to match the wild landscape, but that’s complete bs 😂

The plan was to see what happened if I painted a bit more ‘loosely’. It’s nowhere near the abstract painting it was intended to be. Old habits die hard!

(And that's the end of the Instagram backlog! New paintings to come, maybe, at some point...)

Icelandic Landscape 🏔

This painting is inspired from a photo I took during my third year Geography fieldtrip to Iceland. It was one of my uni highlights: I walked on a glacier, stuck a load of mud over my face in a geothermal pool, pretended to see the Northern Lights, and was driven right past the dive centre where you can swim between tectonic plates (I'll get there one day!).
