Langtree Sinfonia is an amateur orchestra which meets at Langtree School, Woodcote, on the borders of Oxfordshire and Berkshire, originally formed in 1971. We have a new musical director from 2022 – Dimitri Chrysostomou. Many members have either started playing as adults, or have taken up their instruments again, having learned when younger. The orchestra has about 30 registered members, althoug

h extra players are co-opted when needed for bigger works. Concerts are given twice a year – a classical programme in November and a more ambitious romantic event in May or June. Concerts are held at churches in various locations including Wallingford, Henley, Abingdon and Caversham.

Thank you so much to everyone who made today’s concert such a great success! To our conductor Kevin Withell, our guest players, our regular players, everyone working on the bar, Rob and co. for providing the all important cakes and tea in the afternoon break, to our wonderful audience for coming to the Abbey, and of course a very special thank you to Ellen Baumring-Gledhill for her masterful performance of the Elgar!

Excited to meet our Soloist for the Elgar 'Cello Concerto later to rehearse for our Langtree Summer Concert 26 - Elgar, Parry, Sullivan! Do come and join us this Sunday at Dorchester Abbey!

Ellen Baumering-Gledhill was a finalist in the string section of BBC Young Musician of the year 2020 and is currently a Postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music and a winner of numerous prizes and awards. She has studied and participated in masterclasses with many of the greatest current ‘cellists and has performed at the Wigmore Hall as ‘cellist of the Regency string Quartet. As well as playing the Elgar concerto, she is performing concerti by Dvorak and Saint-Saens during this year.

Not long now until our play day on Sunday 22nd February! We are almost sorted with players but would welcome another trombone and a double bass or two. Our venue is at the lovely Shiplake Memorial Hall near Henley on Thames 9.30 am (doors open) - 4.30pm. £15 to include tea, coffee and cake. Langtree Sinfonia invites you to our friendly Orchestra Play Day on Sunday 22nd February 2026 9.30-4.30 near Henley-on-Thames when we will be playing Dvorak's 8th Symphony.
