🎞️ Scenes from the Life of Andy Warhol: Friendships and Intersections, 1990, dir. Jonas Mekas

Jonas Mekas is know for his rapid-fire diary films. His Scenes from the Life chronicles not only Andy Warhol, but also the social and cultural excitement that swirled around him, throbbing to a hypnotic Velvet Underground beat.

🎞️ End of the Art World, 1971, dir. Alex Krasilovsky

‘End of the Art World’ explores the most famous 1960’s artists in New York City on 16mm film, ending in a “Bang!” as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and New York “exploded” in a visual montage.

Join Wolverhampton Art Gallery at Pan-Pan in Digbeth to celebrate the Andy Warhol: Art Star exhibition at a Factory themed party. There will be Warhol inspired music, activities, and live performances.

The Factory was the centre of Warhol’s world. It was both his studio and a space for New York creatives to gather. During the late 1960s, you could hear the Velvet Underground, hang out with Warhol Superstars such as Edie Sedgewick and Candy Darling, and maybe star in a Warhol screen test.

A sweet end to a fantastic summer!

Our final Summer Family Programme workshop saw families join Kate Tilley from to create their very own Andy’s Snack Bags.

Using felt, stitching and lots of imagination, participants transformed simple bags into colourful snack-inspired creations, taking home unique handmade artworks inspired by Andy Warhol’s fascination with everyday objects.

A huge thank you to all of the artists, Student Ambassadors, families and young people who joined us throughout the summer. From printmaking and animation to fashion design, photography, coding and creative making, it’s been brilliant to see so much creativity filling the gallery over the holidays.

While our Summer Programme has now come to an end, we’re already busy planning what’s next...

An unlikely Pop Art icon, the image of a cow was transformed by Andy Warhol into one of his most memorable works 🐄

The motif in Cow (1976) was borrowed from a mass-produced image. A long-established subject in art history, the cow is often associated with pastoral tranquillity. At a time when galleries often followed a white cube aesthetic and were white, minimalist spaces, Warhol reproduced Cow on wallpaper that covered gallery walls from floor to ceiling in bright yellow and pink, challenging conventions of display and transforming the gallery itself into an artwork.

Last Sunday, we were treated to an in-conversation between acclaimed artist Shaqúelle Whyte and celebrated actor Omari Douglas.

Together, they reflected on their experiences of growing up in Wolverhampton and what the city means to them, moving to London to pursuit creative careers, and how creativity and self-expression are central to their lives.

As Shaqúelle Whyte: Shattered Dreams draws to a close, this is your final opportunity to experience the exhibition. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to miss out, it’s on until closing, at 4:30pm, tomorrow.
