Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians

The WCM prides itself on an active magical membership, with several international and national award winning acts within its ranks.

The Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians (WCM) is a local magic society, made up of over fifty magicians who take pride in being members of one of the most active and successful magical societies in the country. Our members range from amateur magicians to award winning professional magic acts, representing the full diversity of the magic arts: children’s entertainers, clowns, mentalists, close up wor

kers, stage acts, local magical dealers and stand-up comedy acts. We meet for lectures and to share magic tricks on alternate Wednesdays, at The Hollybush, 494 Penn Road, Wolverhampton, WV4 4HU from 7:30pm. These meetings are normally for members only so we can protect our secrets and continue to baffle and awe our audiences. The Wolverhampton Circle is happy to welcome other visiting magicians to its meetings, in some cases, a nominal door fee will be applied.

Monthly Lecture Lowdown ...
Who: Vinny Sagoo
Vinny Sagoo, a former lawyer who swapped the courtroom for card tricks and hasn’t looked back since! He’ll be sharing some of his favourite magical creations, from clever number tricks that’ll make you look like a maths whizz, to mentalism effects that pretty much work themselves … and still manage to fool just about everyone.

What WCM learnt:
This will be the 4th time we have had Vinny at the WCM, he’s practically a member but most definitely part of the family and every time he never disappoints. He shows is to make moments not magic when performing.
Vinny showcase a lot of ideas that he’d never shown before, and in no way was a dealer demo, from his take on creating an instant stooge, a mind-reading idea with alphabet cards, to moves none of our members had seen before with his ‘Sixy’ effect, an out of this world packet trick, and a cunning use of the key card principle.
To a take on the classic triumph effect ‘Tri-oomph’, where cards are in chaos, but with 3 built in reveals, which leaves you with a in to Out of this World or a reveal of the cards being sorted red and black.
His sandwich effect ‘Turkish Delight’ had all of us in awe with the reveal, wanting to see it repeatedly as it’s so clean and visual.
With multiple effects framed up at eye level and ending in a natural applause cue, it’s easy to see why Vinny is such a hit and his effects truly are workers.
Finally finishing with his take on a forcing matrix, which impressed a fair few of our members.

On Wednesday 13th May The Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians are hosting a lecture by Ben Williams.
Ben has been a professional magician since 2005, creating and selling magic since 2006, and has consulted for Dynamo, Troy, and Ben Hanlin! He has lectured worldwide and mentored students who have gone on to become professional magicians. Ben is also the creator of some incredible effects, including his Gimmick It Yourself series, "Labelled Evolution," and his newest masterclass "5WITCH," which teaches natural switches with folded cards, billets, and business cards.

Monthly Lecture Lowdown ...
Who: Rich Relish
Rich Relish has been performing magic for almost 20 years and specialises in close-up mentalism. He has always created his own effects and has recently started releasing them to the magic community.
When they visited WCM: 10th December 2025
What WCM learnt:
The lecture was relaxed but well-organized and informative. The evening started with Rich explaining a bit about himself and his work, and his name 'Relish' which he got from a teacher and stuck.
What followed was a stream of ideas and thoughts that could be used by a range of magicians. Rich took us through a new idea he's been playing with using a pack of Uno cards – I won't go into this more than that – then followed a series of simple, effective, and workable material.
From effects with ESP cards that can be done when something goes wrong (a get-out-of-jail-free card), to effects for the Bride and Groom around their top table layout (even this has an out if it goes wrong), to his release with Murphy's Magic EasyTones, to an ingenious and deceptive switch envelope that's still imperceptible even when you know the method. Rich, not one for app magic, also showed two apps he has developed and offered out for free, with the understanding they are not maintained – but both are powerful applications. This was not a dealer demo at all; in fact, I think Rich gave more away than he sold.
WCM would certainly recommend his lecture to any society looking to fill their calendar.

On Wednesday 1st April The Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians are hosting a lecture by Steve Dela.
Who is Steve? He is a magician with over 25 first place Magic Awards.
A Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star!
He has won the IBM Close Up competition twice! First time he was just 16 years old.
Three time winner of the ROVI Trophy and all the way back in 2005 he was awarded The Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year.
Since then, he has been creating MENTALISM and has released many effects which have worked their way into the repertoire of many top pros. Steve will be teaching some of his all time favourite commercial routines.
Each effect taught, he uses to make his full time living as a Mentalist / Magician.
Some are his own creations and some are twists on classic effects. Everything is simple and easy to do.
There really will be something for everyone!
Steve will feature a special routine utilising his marked ‘Night Flight Deck’.
If you’ve ever owned a marked deck and didn’t know what to do with it, this will give you all the inspiration you need.

Monthly Lecture Lowdown ...
Who: Michael Warlock
Mike is a Close-Up Magician, expert craftsman, and the Intelligence Officer of The British Secret Service.
When they visited WCM: 26th November 2025
What WCM learnt:
We learnt how to carry less and amaze more! How to use a good hook. How to maximise the impact of your magic by using synergy (when 2 random objects can make a new trick together). Unlock your creativity by using the same prop in different ways. To just take action when using magicians choice. Staging and verticality is important in close up magic. Flowing and visual story with careful trick selection. He also taught us some of his tricks like first class, popper, Grandma's miracle and role play.

Monthly Lecture Lowdown ...
Who: Jeki Yoo
Jeki has over two decades if experience, he blends stagecraft and modern ideas to create surprising effects that stand out. Known for his creative use of everyday objects and bold concepts, Jeki inspires magicians to think differently.
When they visited WCM: 29th October 2025
What WCM learnt:
The evening was opened with Jeki performing his ‘Follow the Red Dot’ and ‘Ball and cone’ routines, setting us up for an evening of awesomeness from the very start.
What followed was a lecture full of gasps, thunderous applause and plenty of ‘Oh My’s’.
Jeki’s showed a vast array of his ideas and effects from his take on classics like the linking rings, to impromptu card effects with borrowed decks, with so many favourite effects there is far too much to cover in this short write up.
The lecture was fast paced due to some effects being for social media, but everything was explained clearly and thoroughly. From Jeki’s take on Michael Ammar’s coin thru silk brought bang up to date with a clear ziplock bag to a run through of a 3 fly with the astounding skill of the muscle pass, and an impromptu 4 of a kind reveal and haunted deck, everyone was lost for words.
Ending with an explanation of his ‘Follow the Red Dot’ routine. The evening came to a close and Jeki took the time to speak more with anyone who wanted more information or explanations, taking time for photos as well.
If you can see Jeki lecture it is a must, you will learn so much from this true humble professional.
