Something a little different at Emma’s Humbugs today…

Our kitchen was taken over for the day to shoot a video for poet Kieran 🎥

It was really interesting seeing what goes on behind the scenes — the cameras, lighting, sound and just how much work goes into creating something like this.

Another day at Humbugs, another completely new experience. You never quite know what’s going to happen next around here…

Can’t wait to see the finished edit! 💛

Punchy, powerful new outfit V6 Organ Trio get our new season of Café Spotlight gigs underway at Wolverhampton Arts Centre on Sunday October 4 - that's four weeks today!

This exciting and very direct classic Hammond trio features Arran Shanghavi (organ), Jamie McLeish (guitar) and Jono Hilliam (drums).

The gig starts at 1.30pm, and the café itself will be open from 12.30pm serving lunches.

Material, delivered in a Jimmy Smith vein with a more modernist, rockish slant, ranges from Blossom Dearie to John Scofield and Joshua Redman, via a showpiece remodelling of Jimmy Webb's Wichita Lineman.

Jamie told WAC jazz artist development officer Steve Bradley:

"I’m now going into my fourth academic year [on the jazz degree at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire] and I started speaking to Jono when I was in my second year and he was in his fourth year. There was just a group of lads I got to know, and he was in that group, I played with him really not too much, but I just got to know him naturally just from hanging around with people.

"Jono and Arran have a connection: there is a lot of crossover between BCU Conservatoire and University of Birmingham, and Arran studied, it wasn’t music, but a form of politics and philosophy, at UoB. But there is a jazz night that UoB hosts, it’s called JFS [Jazz, Funk & Soul] at Selly Oak which is led by UoB but because we’re not too far away, BCU and RBC people would go to that and that would cause the mingling, so they knew each other, and then Arran would naturally hang around this group sometimes that I knew through Jono."

Book tickets now for V6 Organ Trio - Café Spotlight, presented with Jazz At Wolverhampton. Link in Comments.

Humbugs at WAC

At Wolverhampton Arts Centre, there’s plenty going on,
A coffee brewing nicely and usually a song.

There’s theatre, art and music, workshops by the score,
And tucked inside the middle… Humbugs by the door.

We’ve cakes upon the counter, lunch to keep you fed,
A proper cup of coffee and somewhere to sit instead.

There might be jazz on Sunday, a festival or two,
A room full of performers — and something new to do.

Some days are slightly bonkers, some days fly along,
Sometimes someone’s crafting while someone else sings a song.

But that’s the joy of WAC — you never quite can tell
Who’ll wander through the café or what story they will tell.

So if you’re at the Arts Centre, come in and say hello,
Have a brew, eat some cake and watch the whole place go.

Because Humbugs isn’t just a café, tucked away at WAC…
It’s food, it’s art, it’s people —
and we wouldn’t change a scrap
