🐎Animal Encounters🐎
11 July - 14 October 2026

A family friendly exhibition, Animal Encounters offers an engaging summer highlight, illuminating how artists across generations have turned to the animal world to explore identity, symbolism, and the human experience.

These works reveal how animals have long inspired curiosity, empathy, and imaginative storytelling, from bold sculptural forms to expressive and playful mark making. Featuring paintings, prints, and sculpture by Ruskin Spear, Roger Hilton, Elisabeth Frink, and John Craxton, shown alongside contemporary works from the collection, the exhibition encourages close looking, conversation, and shared discovery designed with families in mind.

Ioanna, The Ottershaw Potter, has taught Arts and crafts for over 25 years and has been in the local community for over 20. She is known for working with terracotta clay and producing unique, hand-built designs suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, of which has been inspired by travels and time spent living in Thailand.

Sheila creates slip-cast coloured porcelain tableware inspired by the Slow Movement and Emotionally Durable Design. Each piece is created uniquely by carefully carved into the clay layers, often to resemble fingerprints where she would hold the pieces. The pots are then burnished, bisque fired, sanded smooth and glazed with a clear gloss inside. They are then sanded once more to ensure a tactile smooth finish.

Denise is a mixed-media artist who creates shimmering contemporary
mosaics for the home, garden and to wear. Her work plays with the concept of distorted reflections using a range of materials, including reflective metallic surfaces, to capture movement. Working from her studio in Farnham, Denise explores scale and dimension and produces fine art pieces for interior and exterior spaces. Denise was the winner of Surrey Artist of the Year 2016.
