The first thing that came to mind for a card to congratulate my nephew for his GCSE results. But would a 16-year-old even know the expression? Or am I showing my age again (see also my Get off with you card). Still couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out my gorgeous new wood type from so I've printed a few of these and liked them so much I added them to my shop for other oldies like me.

Did you know that you can book a letterpress workshop with me through Airbnb Experiences? Last week I was lucky enough to have a workshop photographed by Alessio Paratore for Airbnb. .emma, her daughter and friends kindly agreed to be photographed as they printed. Alessio was extremely patient and hung around for hours to get the perfect shots of the action and everyone's print. He even took some photos of me that I can just about tolerate. (I am extremely camera avoidant.)Thanks Alessio, and thanks to Emma and her gang too. It was great having you all in the studio. Hope you are as pleased with the results as I am. 😊

Serendipity. This song has been running through my head and I've been thinking about making a print inspired by it. With 10 minutes before I had to leave the studio to visit my friend Amy Sharrocks and ink that needed to be used or cleaned away, I thought I'd try something. This was the happy accident that resulted. Then I remembered that Amy turned floating into a work of art a few years back with her work Drift and it felt like fate. It might not be quite what I planned but I love the serendipity of it.

Larry very much considers himself an artist's muse. He already has two beautiful portraits, thanks to and (see following pics). Now he's moving into his abstract phase and loves to hang out in the studio of , hoping to inspire her (at least that's what he thinks). Linda's studio is open for every day until Sunday. Come and see her beautiful paintings, Larry will be waiting to greet you. (And afterwards pop in and see me, my letterpress workshop will be open to visitors too.)

One of the joys of letterpress printed stationery is the impression that can be left by the type on the paper. It's clearest when printing 'blind' - without ink - on soft textured card or paper. You take it to another level when you use type designed with a 3-D effect, or shadow. Here's three of favourite from my type collection (from the top) Gill Shadow, Thorne Shaded and Rockwell Shadow. Printed on Gmund Cotton card for crisp impressions and soft pillowy bulges in between. You have to admit, they really stand out.
