"Beautiful, just beautiful. The only word I can use to describe our stay and time working with Arthur Young at Shaken Oak Studio's in the blissful countryside of sunny Oxford shire. We had an absolutely amazing time working someone so like-minded! The acoustics were beautiful, the equipment was to die for, the microphones used were angelic and the building and land it's self has a certain something that you simply can't help but fall in love with. Arthur is a very talented man with exceptional attention to detail and a mind like a tap of ideas to work with in the recording and production process. We definitely wish to work with him again, and I'm sure we will. A definite must for any band looking for a creative and interesting sound, the man really is a visionary. We recommend him to anyone looking for a producer to work with, no matter what the genre!" - RicoDimitri (July 2012)

"I first came to Shaken Oak in its early days, when it was really just getting started as a studio. Even at that stage I was impressed with the professionalism and unique surroundings. The silence around the place allows you to focus. The remote setting only adds to the experience. Arthur is a calm, patient but efficient influence. Negotiating the old, bumpy track leading to the farm serves as a good motto for the place......take it easy!!" - Ags Connolly (March 2014)

"Love this mix Arthur, you are a legend." - Craig Reynolds (Synchromystic Acoustics) (May 2011)

"The most comfortable studio in the world!" - 1000 Mile Highway (October 2010)

It's that time when Nightshift Magazine reveal their top tracks of the year, the only metric of success that truly matters - and we're so pleased that yet again musicians who have recorded here make the list. Congratulations to both In-Flight Movie and the recently disbanded Cassels! Also big up Young Knives for earning the top spot!

We don't go in for clickbait here at Nightshift, but I'm not going to give anything away here when I say the new issue is up online athttps://nightshiftmag.co.uk/2025/dec.pdf and, it being the last issue of the year, features our run-down of the best Oxford songs of 2025. Who is Number 1? Who, indeed, is Number 13? Or 27? Maybe your song is in there. Maybe you just missed out on the Top 30 and Christmas is RUINED.

It shall remain a mystery until you click on the link and find out. So a pretty rubbish mystery really. One even Dan Brown would dismiss as a bit shonky.

But there you have it - as traditional as mince pies, mulled wine and having racist in-laws over for dinner, it's THE BEST OXFORD TRACKS OF 2025. Yay.

Also festively traditional are the Bullingdon's Reggae Xmas Party and The Shapes' Christmas concert, both of which are among the main previews in this issue. Also playing in December is MOUNT St. HELEN, who is the Introducing artist, while SIMPLE have two night on and main man Nick Gladwin is the Promotermouth feature.

It's a double gig guide as there'll be no January issue (something else that's becoming a tradition).

I won't wish you a Merry Christmas yet since it's not even actually December yet and anyway I'll be back with more follow-up posts, but rest assured I love you and sincerely wish you peace on earth. Now, did someone mention mulled wine?

Arthur here: these days the studio’s bookings are 80% dry hire from our lovely freelancers.

However, I’m officially working on three albums this year, and Jackie’s is one of them.

The moment she approached me about producing this, I knew I had to say yes and that it would be the most amazing creative endeavour. Songs of meditation, contemplation, love. What it means to be human, quite frankly. Truly healing music.

The crowdfunder for the album is doing pretty well, but there’s only a few days left and a lot more to be raised. Please pledge if you feel able!
