Here's the updated 2000 map from Legoland Windsor, issued later in the season.

You can spot a few changes including the new Miniland cluster 'Lego Airport' now noted as opening 2001 instead (though it never did open) and the Creation Centre now noted as opening in October. The centre opened in the winter Christmas event in the end.

Here's the early 2000 season park map from Legoland Windsor, the opening season of Wave Surfer. Also noted is the planned opening of the Creation Centre and Lego Racers that season, though this was eventually delayed to the winter.

Also advertised is 'Lego Airport', which was to be a new Miniland cluster sponsored by Virgin Airlines to open that year, but it was delayed to 2001 and then never did get built due to Virgin pulling out.

In November 1999, Legoland Windsor submitted a revised scheme for the Creation Centre, now with different architectural style.

This also proposed that the complex would now be built in two phases, with the large wing and lookout over the hillside to come later. Going by the original scheme, phase two would have contained the full size Lego model workshop, so a smaller workshop was provided on the upper floor in the first phase.

The initially planned second floor with the conference rooms and terrace had also earlier been cut from the original design. The final building differed slightly from these plans but followed the same layout.

This original concept by Entertainment Design Studios gives an overall look for this revised design for the Creation Centre had the second phase been built, including the lookout platform, waterfalls, a themed crane and Lego scenery. In the end, just the first phase was built with the smaller model workshop and Lego Racers attraction.

Star Wars Miniland at Legoland Windsor, opened in the former Rocket Racers areas in the Creation Centre! This was an animated walkthrough exhibition on the ground floor. It has since been closed and turned into park maintenance workshops.

More to come on Lego Racers and the Creation Centre’s opening soon!

Plans for the Legoland Windsor’s Creation Centre (the round complex at the top of the hill by The Beginning) were first submitted in April 1999. The initial proposals show an earlier design that would have been nearly double the size, with a larger on-site model workshop in a separate wing to the Lego Racers attraction.

What appears to be an AV presentation named the ‘Lego Story’ is also shown, plus Lego exhibits on the first floor. Lego Racers also has a far larger atrium of winding ramps leading up and down to the car build rooms in this version.

Also proposed was a viewing platform extending from the first floor, overlooking where Viking River Splash was eventually built. There would have also been a third level comprising two conference rooms and a terrace.

Balloon School also opened at Legoland Windsor in 1999! Here it is pictured all new in these rare photos. It was built at the top of Jack & Jill Hill by the picnic site between the Traffic area and Miniland.

The ride is one of few flying balloon rides that were made by WGH Transportation from the mid 90s. It originally had animated Lego figures of a professor and his wife operating his flying machine!

X-Treme Team Challenge opened at Legoland Windsor in 1999 (later renamed Raft Racers). The ride took guests on a water flume ride down the hill between Imagination Centre and Duplo Gardens, with two duelling lanes.

It also brought a sponsored Coca-Cola rocky fountain pictured here. At some point later the Lego figure fishing while playing whack-a-mole on the lawn was added, does anyone remember when?

At the end of 1998, Legoland Windsor submitted plans for another major attraction, an adventure themed water dark ride through an ancient Egyptian temple. The ride would have been built at the edge of the lake where the Legoland Hotel is today, including a final drop into the water.

Plans were cancelled for unknown reasons, but had it gone ahead the ride would have likely opened in 2000. One reason may have been the new water treatment regulations around that time, which would have likely meant the drop into the lake would have needed a more costly solution.

Including in the original planning submission is also a very detailed interior ride layout showing a multi level ride through many scenes, a small internal drop, a collapsing temple and final climb up and out of the temple!

The ride had been designed by Imagination Design Studios, but unfortunately the studio archives are long lost.
