The Queen's Six

The Queen's Six Bringing you the very finest in castle-based a cappella! Like us for news, clips, japes & updates on forthcoming gigs.

The Queen’s Six was established in 2008, the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I, from whom they take their name. Members of the group are also Lay Clerks of St George's Chapel. The Chapel Choir, which consists of boy trebles and twelve professional adult singers, performs some eight services a week, as well as at private and state occasions, often before the Royal Family. This

rare privilege demands the highest musical standards. Most significantly however, it is the familiarity of living and singing together so frequently that lends this group its distinctive closeness and blend, as well as an irresistible informality and charm. Now Lissie, Tom, Nick, Dom, Andrew and Simon have come together to bring their unique style of entertainment to a much wider audience. Their repertoire extends far beyond the reach of the choir stalls: between austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals, haunting folk songs and upbeat Jazz and Pop arrangements, The Queen’s Six can provide anything from post-dinner or wedding reception entertainment to full concert programmes. Following in the steps of groups like The King’s Singers and Manhattan Transfer, these six talented young singers are sure to deliver an unforgettable musical treat.

Konzert 9: Coburg. The final performance of this tour! We were pretty tired before we went on stage but another superb audience gave us the energy and enthusiasm to carry us to another great performance. Many thanks to our German agent, Christian (pictured in a pan-Asian restaurant during our pre-rehearsal meal), for making this a successful and memorable tour.

Concert 8: Mülhausen. A beautiful concert and a reunion with a young J.S. Bach who was organist for just a year at the Divi-Blasii Kirche, where we performed last night. A lovely crowd in a vibrant town. The local brewery had particularly good beer, which was much appreciated at this stage of the tour!

Concert 7: Tangermünde. We were lucky enough to spend 2 nights in this special corner of Saxony where every building is beautiful and Storks nest in chimneys and on top of tall spires. Upon arrival we were invited to lead a workshop at Sommerschule Wust where, as part of an intensive English course they got to work with us on some ensemble singing. This was great fun and we saw some of them again at the packed concert at St Stephen's church, Tangermünde.

Konzert 5: Rostock. Yet another large and enthusiastic audience. We love Germany! It was our longest journey yet, with close to 4 hours in the car with large suitcases and lots of Cds and brochures plus our 2 wonderful agents, Christian and Stefan. Not much time to look around this very attractive University City. Our church was near the Port, the largest of its kind on the German Baltic.

Concert 4: Meldorf. Another fantastic and large audience and a wonderful review which looked very good when we ran it through Google Translate! During the day, some of us had a quick trip to the coast for a bracing walk in the wind. Next stop, Rostock.

Concert 3: Kiel. We made a quick trip to Kiel for another great concert with a packed audience. The church had been destroyed during WWII but rebuilt with many preserved artifacts. Of particular interest was a cross of nails from Coventry: a sign of reconciliation. The Dean of Windsor (formally Bishop of Coventry) had recently preached here and we met a number of people who were delighted by our visit as a means of preserving the connection with Windsor. It was a great first concert in Kiel. Hopefully we will return soon.

Konzert 2: Flensburg. Amazing audience and another full house. Thank you to all who came. Next stop, Kiel.

We’ve been enjoying a pretty relaxed beginning of our latest German tour, having performed our first concert on Thursday to a very enthusiastic full house audience. After a lovely day off, where we enjoyed the beautiful Frisian island of Amrum, we are off to Flensburg, in the first of a series of 9 concerts in 9 days.
