The Queen's Six

The Queen's Six Bringing you the very finest in castle-based a cappella! Like us for news, clips, japes & updates on forthcoming gigs.

The Queen’s Six was established in 2008, the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I, from whom they take their name. Members of the group are also Lay Clerks of St George's Chapel. The Chapel Choir, which consists of boy trebles and twelve professional adult singers, performs some eight services a week, as well as at private and state occasions, often before the Royal Family. This

rare privilege demands the highest musical standards. Most significantly however, it is the familiarity of living and singing together so frequently that lends this group its distinctive closeness and blend, as well as an irresistible informality and charm. Now Lissie, Tom, Nick, Dom, Andrew and Simon have come together to bring their unique style of entertainment to a much wider audience. Their repertoire extends far beyond the reach of the choir stalls: between austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals, haunting folk songs and upbeat Jazz and Pop arrangements, The Queen’s Six can provide anything from post-dinner or wedding reception entertainment to full concert programmes. Following in the steps of groups like The King’s Singers and Manhattan Transfer, these six talented young singers are sure to deliver an unforgettable musical treat.

Any Social Media guru will tell you that to engage an audience, a vocal group should produce bite sized clips, preferably with lots of exciting facial expressions to show that you're enjoying yourself. Anyway, here's a 7 minute video where you can't see our faces. Stick your headphones on and let all the cheap dopamine wash away as we perform Obrecht's Mater Patris.

We've been home for a while now but can reflect on a wonderful tour in our new group formation. Our last 2 concerts in Braunschweig and Duisburg really felt like vintage performances with audiences to match. We were so delighted to workshop and collaborate with the Kantorei St Salvator Duisburg in our final concert. Looking forward to heading back to Germany next month.

With a week off from chapel, we've made the most of our time, with 6 concerts in Germany. As we head to our final stop in Duisburg, before heading back for Monday Evensong, we thought we would share some photos of our trip so far.
