BSL tours of Phantasmagoria
Saturday 25th July, 11am or 1pm
Henry Moore Institute, Leeds

Join us for a British Sign Language (BSL) tour of our current exhibition, Phantasmagoria: Folkloric Sculpture for the Digital Age.

These tours are led by architect and art facilitator Martin Glover, a Deaf BSL user and experienced guide. The tours have been designed specifically with the Deaf community in mind.
It will be two tours; 11am and 1pm start so please choose.

For hearing companions who are non-signers, a BSL interpreter will be on standby throughout the sessions to voice-over in English but the interpreter's main role would help Martin to reimagine the sounds off some exhibits for the deaf patrons.

BSL tour: In Other Worlds

A British Sign Language tour of the exhibition led by Martin Glover, exclusively for D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors, highlighting key artworks.

Our new immersive exhibition invites you to step into the future. Liam Young’s imaginary worlds take over various locations in the Barbican, inviting us to imagine what the future of humanity could look like, and the challenges and adventures to come.

Through an immersive experience, created in collaboration with leading voices from film, TV, literature and science, comes a display of films, stories, tapestries, models and costumes. In Other Worlds constructs a series of imagined futures for our planet, rooted in real technology and climate-based possibilities.

BSL Tour: Flare-Up

Goldsmith Centre for Contemporary Art
New Cross, London

Join Martin Glover for a British Sign Language tour of Flare-Up. The exhibition brings together UK-based and international visual artists whose work engages with the poetics and aesthetics of illness, disability, neurodivergence and Deafness.

The tour will feature a session in the CCA cafe, where attendees can get a hot drink and discuss the exhibition together.

BIOGRAPHY
Martin, a deaf BSL user, is an architect and art facilitator. He delivers tours and workshops across the UK on contemporary art, architecture, street art, and public art/sculpture. He also manages his Digitspace project, championing for better visual arts access nationally.

Did you visit our exhibitions '1880 THAT' or Finger Talk, or attend any deaf-led or BSL events? We’re looking for deaf visitors aged 18+ to share their views on our recent exhibitions and events about sign language and deaf perspectives.

The small groups will be led by deaf researcher Martin Glover in BSL (with audio interpretation) and will last an hour. We have in-person spaces at Wellcome Collection on Monday 8th June or online on Wednesday 10th June, both at 19:00. Payment is £50 and your views will be treated as anonymous in the final report. Herewith's a short BSL clip explaining the sessions.

Deaf Access Workshop: Museums / galleries Tues 30th June 13.30-16.00

The theme: Raise the minimum standards of access in all venues through policy change, practical support and peer sharing.

The project, linking to Sensory Access, organised by Professor Anica Zeyon. She is based at Royal Holloway University of London.

We both facilitate the workshop. The workshop content will be BSL led but will have interpreters for the hearing attendees. Live Captioning will be also provided.

Light refreshment will be provided.

The workshop will take place at Senate House, University of London (behind British Museum), London.
